Why dont the US reinstitute a military draft?
 

Most other countries have mandatory service and it seems that most Americans like to vote for war mongers.

Which other countries have mandatory service? And.. will I have to move to Canada?

Also, will they be drafting primates?

its not common in europe as far as I know . . what countries are you talking about ?

Not sure which countries you are referring to, as far as I know Israel, Singapore both require you to do service in the military....not sure what others have the same policy.

Countries with Mandatory Military Service.

Draft = public awareness on a more wide spread personal level in regards to wars.

Public awareness = more people paying attention to the issues.

More people paying attention = young people male and female saying fuck that shit I am not going to fight.

Young males and females who's life is now endangered = no longer passive and lazy. They then begin to protest.

Protest = national guard and police cracking skulls.

Cracked skulls = more people pissed off.

Enough people pissed off = politicians fired.

Politicians fired = no more power for them and their friends.

Much easier to use a stop gap, and keep re using the few we have and tell everyone else to just keep spending.

It's political suicide. Even in a time of a peace, it would likely be political suicide here.

Or come down with boils on their butts (Limbaugh) or just defer a million times (Cheney and pretty much everyone else in the Bush administration).

Again people, read the article. It's not going to happen. It's a complete logistical impossibility. But I've only been saying that and posting updates of this same article for about 6 years now, every time someone screams "There's going to be a draft!!" ;)

Because this did happen during the Vietnam era...Canada has since signed some kind of agreement with the US that will not allow it to happen again.

Haven't read the article yet, but it will also be impossible to fight the wars that are currently being faught by America if it had a military draft.

By law 18 year olds have to register for the draft. If another conflict breaks out say with Korea...Iran...China (over the Tiawan) etc. the draft will be reinstituted. If Senator McCain becomes President and he decides to put more boots on the ground in Iraq (General Tommy Franks originally wanted a minimum of 480,000 and other Generals wanted approximately the same number but was denied by Rumsfeld...he intiallty offered General Franks 70,000 but ultimately agreed to 160,000) in major numbers the draft will be reinstituted.

28 billion dollars in monthly wages ;)

BTW...draft regs have been rewritten since the draft ended and many of the deferrments that were allowed during the Vietnam era are no longer allowed.

The war in Iraq is amazing.

The far left says troops can start to be pulled right now, while the far right says there needs to be a draft.
