Dr. Pepper Calls Axl Rose Out. FREE Pepper for everyone?

Funky week for 80's Big Hair Bands... Rikki Rockett earlier this week, and now this... Dr. Pepper calling Axl out... :1orglaugh

" DALLAS ? For long-suffering Guns N' Roses fans, it's come to this ? putting their faith in free soda.

Fourteen years after frontman Axl Rose and his '90s bandmates started recording the now-mythical "Chinese Democracy," soft drink maker Dr Pepper says it will give away a free soda to everyone in America if the album is finally released in 2008.

The offer didn't escape the attention of Rose. Fans of the blockbuster rock group have been virtually taunted over the last decade with perpetual rumors of the album's completion.

"We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album 'Chinese Democracy,' as for us, this came totally out of the blue," Rose said in a statement on the band's Web site.

Greg Artkop, a spokesman for Plano-based Dr Pepper, said the company is simply fans of the band. But with "Chinese Democracy" into its second decade of recording, he wouldn't put odds on the offer succeeding.

"Only one man knows," Artkop said, referring to Rose."

Press Release from Axl Regarding Dr Pepper
We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album "Chinese Democracy," as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him.

What's cool is that Axl says "And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him." ... which means ... Axl's definitely planning to release the album this year... as proved by the confident statement of having his Dr Pepper.

Btw ... before anyone bitches ... Axl has NEVER announced a definite release date. Axl announced one tentative, and he made sure he was specific when he said tentative, release date a couple of years ago ... but no fixed date has ever been set.

I think it will never happen.

farkedup 03-28-2008 09:02 PM

How would they ensure that each and every citizen in America received a single can? Sounds like a logistical nightmare.

If GNR release the album and you don't like Dr. Pepper, send the can down here... my wife is a fan of both the band and the drink, but the latter has been discontinued here. :Graucho

Did anyone see Walk Hard? Where Dewey Cox is in the studio forever, trying to get a sound right? He even brings in goats and tries to direct them. Is Axl doing that?

Martin 03-29-2008 11:17 AM

Bet the Album sucks, that's why it hasn't been released.

Wow man. You totally opened my eyes to the bullshit. What a conspiracy this all is.

Thank you for waking me up and saving me from being a "sheeple"

I'm sure they would just leave it up to the discretion of each American. Will probably offer some type of coupon that you mail in for and redeem for a bottle at any store.
They can then keep track of who's already gotten one in a database so they don't issue doubles.

farkedup 03-29-2008 01:21 PM

Am I one of the few who hope this never actually comes out? GNR needs to stay dead. There simply isn't a way for this album to do anything other than disappoint.

80% of the original GNR fan base is so old they jam out to easy listening... their tits have sagged below the beltline.

If this album rocks it'll be soft by todays standards and if it doesn't rock everybody will laugh.

Xniphobe 03-29-2008 01:23 PM

Axl is hopelessly, hopelessly lost in a universe almost entirely of his own making. Dr. Pepper is clowning on him and getting away with it...even Axl himself is playing along.

I have a very difficult time putting Axl in the same category as guys like Plant, Jagger, Tyler, Mercury and Roth. This latest turn of events is yet another example (in a long list) of why.
