Windows XP 64bit....pros and cons?

anyone using it? I have a 64bit processor and was thinking of upgrading this weekend

GatorB 03-27-2008 04:01 PM

Do you have any programs that can actually take advanatage of the 64 bit processor. I still don't know of many. If not I personally don't see the need to upgrade.

GrouchyAdmin 03-27-2008 04:02 PM

Pros: no issues with 3-4GB+ RAM. Cons: A lot of 32bit specific stuff won't work right. Many video codecs, hardware drivers, and some software just shits the bed under XP 64.

Unless you really need more RAM support; there's no reason for it; it won't make things faster, and DEP is a hack anyhow.

Jace 03-27-2008 04:05 PM

hmm...maybe I won't then, haha

aico 03-27-2008 04:20 PM

Con: Microcrap is going to stop support for XP.

tony286 03-27-2008 04:35 PM

I never stole from my business partner, I've never fucked a tranny hooker in Costa Rica, I've never cheated on my wife, I've never used content I didn't pay for and had to shut my site down, I've never had a wife leave me...

And calling tech support is not the same as no longer supporting software you fucking idiot.

have to agree with you there, even when I had major issues I just figured it out or formatted

tiger 03-27-2008 06:13 PM

Unless you are running 64bit apps no point to switching really.

tony286 03-27-2008 06:17 PM

Actually once apon a time, microsoft had wonderful paid tech support. You would pay $35 and talk to an engineer on the piece of software you needed help on. Saved a shit load of time but the last time I called about 4 yrs ago. It was some guy in turkey who spoke in broken english and knew nothing. last time I used it.

Catalyst 03-27-2008 10:01 PM

I use it.. because of the amount of ram I have.. and it is nice and fast.. but there is no drivers for it.. fuck.. Itunes is not even supported for XP 64

eMonk 03-28-2008 02:08 AM

Hmm neither have I. Btw 2014. 6 years from now if you are still using xp.

http://help.lockergnome.com/general/...pict53591.html

2014. Is this seriously what you use to rip on microsoft? What is macs market share again?

http://www.macobserver.com/article/2...asc &start=50

2.5% in 2005 in that article.

Now.... Ok so lets look at this. Mac is SOOO fucking great right? I seem to recall they were selling apple computers BEFORE Microsoft was shit right? Just explain to me PLEASEEEEEE why after ALL THESE YEARS is their market share of the computer market less than 3%? Let me guess it was a HUGE conspiracy right? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

And btw it takes a special kind of asshole to take bullshit personal potshots at me and my family due to a disagreement over a fucking computer. I hope karma creeps up and nails your ass just like its going to your buddies. :2 cents: :321GFY

CunningStunt 03-28-2008 02:32 AM

I wouldn't bother. For at least 3 years anyways.

You're insane. He asked what a con was, I provided one, sorry I am no in the "loop" to know the exact date, I just happen to read in the news that day that they were no longer going to support XP and therefore force people into Vista. No where did I mention anything about a Mac being better or have any sort of computer disagreement with anyone. You have serious insecurities about people who use Macs. I didn't take any potshots at you, I was just simply stating things I have never done.

GrouchyAdmin 03-28-2008 12:17 PM

Jesus Christ will you two take your god damn sissy slap fight to slashdot already?

I see, now.

You're just an arrogant Mac user without any real reason, but you're dumb enough to buy the salesmanship that promotes it as 'Different.' You've got Steve's cock so far up your ass it's coming out your nose, and that is the only reason for your mediocre existence; so you can prove your worth by fighting with some dude on a PC in fucking Nashville.

Keep reaching for that rainbow, you fucking retard.

Guess it was too hard for you, I'll try to keep it simple for you next time, sorry. I'd speak slower next time, but this is text.

Hey, stupid. Here's a simple synopsis for you: You're on the internet, and losing a fight to StickyFingerz. Kill yourself.

Says the guy who is losing a fight on the internet to me.

Is there some way I can contact you? This way, when I finally give a shit what you think, I can let you know.

rickdu 03-28-2008 12:41 PM

a lot of programs like real raphsody don't work, and others you have to right-click and "run as administrator" to get them to work.. wireless network adapters also crash quite often.

Incorrect. been running XP Pro X64 for about a year on my main desktop. Haven't encountered 1 single program or codec that didn't work.

The same thing here. No prob with drivers/codecs for XP 64bit.

munki 03-29-2008 10:31 PM

Pros - I'm running 64 on my lappie and main render whore now...

Definite improvements in mem handling without having to use bcdedit options.

All my 32 bits, codecs, whatever the fuck else work just fine... (if your's dont... i don't know, your retarded?)

Cons - Sitting through another format and sys install always sucks...

Iron Fist 03-29-2008 10:40 PM
