never said you would. Never bashed the US either. Just stating that unlike some people like to think, there are many places in the world you can live "freely" and happily....

I have dual citizenship. So what now? Am I unpatriotic? That seems to be the favourite word the gung-ho people like to throw out (not necessarily putting you in that group)

2012 03-26-2008 12:33 PM

it's nice to pull the feeding tube out... bust out of the bubble and travel around. It's an amazing world out there

And then there's people like you who just follow their government without questioning anything that is said to them.

I actually did enjoy living in the SF/Bay Area, but since I was a kid my family moved around a lot, to different countries so I got a taste of what is out there and that carried through to when I got older.

Everyone has their own preferences, and each has a right to their own opinions but I always find it amusing how there are so many on here that bash other countries without ever living anywhere outside their own borders. And that goes for the US bashers as well.

tony286 03-26-2008 12:43 PM

I tell people I cant say I live in the greatest country in the world, when I havent lived anywhere else.

2012 03-26-2008 12:44 PM

for the most part the Government stopped listening to what the average citizen wanted a long time ago, and that is probably true of most governments around the world.

Seems the main motivation to get into the White House is so you can fatten up your pockets and that of your buddies.

I dont mind politicians stealing money, but when thousands of people die over a bunch of lies it really sickens me. But what sicken me even more are idiots like the one who started this thread, who still believe Iraq was liberated.

There is no end to arguing about any countries policies ... the actual day to day life is what interests me.

(And living in the SF/Bay area is like a different country compared to most of the US)

Basic math will tell you that .... Who in their right mind spends tens of millions to get a job that pays $400,000.?

Martin 03-26-2008 01:01 PM

The people that go on like "God Bless America" or "Canada is the best Country in the World" etc etc are most times the people who have never left their own State or Province.

it would be even funnier if it wasn't the major component in the oil that has kept this fuckass engine humming

If the antics of the dickabush twins were an SNL skit 10 years ago it would be great laughs ... but totally unbelievable. I'm in shock and awe !

lol yeah I agree that the Bay Area is definetely different...

To be honest since I moved my day to day life hasn't really changed that much, except I gave up living in a house to moving into an apartment. One of the things I did gain in my everyday life was time, sounds weird but not having to drive everywhere and living in a city where everything is walkable left me with more time to spend doing other things.

I moved here (Hong Kong) for the culture, I absolutely love it. I lived here when I was in my teens and the city has been in my blood ever since.

Hong Kong ...... Well that certainly is a different lifestyle. I couldn't imagine living in a city that large ...... what a different pace from how I live. That's pretty cool ....

.

its definetely not for everyone, but Ive actually been surprised with how many people from the US, Canada and Europe that came here on 1-3 year work contracts ended up permanently moving here.

But like I always tell all my friends back in the US, its one of those places that is worth the visit, atleast once.

BradM 03-26-2008 02:08 PM

I moved from Canada to the US. Every country has its perks and downs. I prefer the US over Canada. Maybe I'd like the UK more, or even Morocco. Who knows.

You'd be completely shocked at the number of Canadians down here. Maybe it's just Socal but my grandpa in law is originally from Toronto (joined the US army and went to Korea in the 50s), and I've met dozens and dozens of Canucks while shopping or driving around.

If we were born with a weird mark on our foreheads or something I'm sure the US would be calling for the Snow Mexicans to get deported, too.

I'm not shocked my first wife's parent's were from Canada. The only way you could tell was they didn't wear coats during our "cold" winters. :1orglaugh

Congrats to you. I can only speak for myself, but at this point in our country's history I'm ashamed to be an American citizen.

I love what this country has the potential to be, and despise what it has become -- the laughingstock of the free world.
