What do you think about this .357 Revolver....Is it worth $549?

I have been looking for a .357 double action for a while. I found a Ruger GP100 in excellent condition for $549. Anyone ever owned this gun? All reviews say it's a very smooth firing .357 and durable.

here is the actual gun for sale:

Just practice with it, I've never owned one but have always heard good things about it. Good price too.

I only have a few neighbors who don't mind when I shoot at home - but I usually shoot my pistols at the range. I don't think I would be shooting this all the time, but it can fire .38 rounds which are great for range shooting, cheap and less powerful.

I would guess it would only turn it off, and once at that :)

I've looked at that site before but I think I'd be too afraid to buy off there. I can ravage ebay with the best of them but for my guns I have to hold them before I buy, too many little things that can be wrong with them.

I love Ruger.

I have a 1961 single action Blackhawk .357

http://www.rmefdenver.org/images/gun...ackhawk_45.jpg

Is that a 6"? Brand new 6's go for about $525

Vendzilla 03-26-2008 12:27 PM

Ruger makes a very good pistol, they use good metal and allows you to use hot loads unless it's the new version of the Vakero( not sure on the spelling )

heres a write up on the gun you want http://www.epinions.com/content_4416643204

Yes 6" - through a Cabelas store, looks like I should price shop a bit.

SpacemanSpiff 03-26-2008 02:39 PM

I had one and loved it. Wife got custody of it in the divorce though. Haven't gotten around to getting another one yet, but it's on my list.

Persius 03-26-2008 02:49 PM

nice looks fuckin badass

The Judge 03-26-2008 03:22 PM

if it's used dont buy it
.357 ammo can get expensive if you use a lot of it
for that money there are plenty other good options

BV 03-26-2008 03:25 PM

That's a great piece. I have had my GP100 for over 20 years.

Also, don't listen to Judge, you can shoot .38 specials in that if you desire.

Violetta 03-26-2008 03:30 PM

why do you want a gun?

BV 03-26-2008 03:30 PM

Also for those of you that are unfamiliar, quality firearms, like this Ruger, increase in value as long as you take care of them.

This one is stainless so you don't have to much to worry about, but a blued finish takes a little care and a moisture free environment. Other than that they last forever and increase in value all along.

You can use .38 rounds in it, which is part of the reason I am looking .357

I already know your feelings on guns so I'll keep it short.

I have a nice collection that I add to every few months. I love to shoot, be it handguns, rifles, or shotguns. I also have a concealed carry permit not that has anything to do with my love of guns. If you have never shot a real gun, (not a p-shooter like a .22) I highly advise you find a range and try it. I enjoy shooting as much as you may enjoy your computer. It takes a lot of skill to target shoot and the feeling of the raw power isn't bad either :winkwink:

that wasn't so short was it :)

TCSMatt 03-26-2008 04:07 PM

Has anyone shot at The Gun Store in Vegas?

Martin 03-26-2008 04:18 PM

That's a Dirty Harry right there.

MrMaxwell 03-26-2008 05:04 PM

.38 will fire out of a .357
Of course .357 won't go into a .38
I keep my Ruger "Police service six" right here on my desk.
I love it.

For the same money you might go HK

I never knew that my gun was worth so much,
Looks like a couple of them for sale for over $400
I paid $140 for it..
I go way the hell back with a pawnbroker guy.

If you get the MAC be sure it is a real one by Military Armament .. I hate clones .. Also be sure that you get it in .45 with the the 50rd magazines
A guy can buy two of them and have alot of firepower
A mac in each hand can stop a big group of attackers armed or not
That would finally give a set in stone meaning to
"I make it rain on dem hoze"

That was a .44
They kick too much for me
I could shoot your ass with one,
But if I missed the first time and you had a piece too, fuck I'd be fucked because it takes me a second or two to recover and re-aim the thing.

With my .357 if I miss the first time I don't have so much time wasted and I am more comfortable with the 2 round burst

I guess some fools carry shit like the .454 and .500 and .480 now of a days
If I wanted to hit someone that hard it'd be a sawed off

Spunky 03-26-2008 07:48 PM

Looks like a slick looking weapon
