what to do about car accident? insurance?

yo guys
on sunday some guy hit my car. I just got it 3 months ago... Anyway he hit the right side so its all fucked up from the passenger side fender to the passenger door..

He admitted fault, was really sorry, i called cops, they took report, etc..

Anyway, i gotta call his insurance company but im wondering if there is a way i can get my whole car repainted?

The problem is if they paint only my passenger side it might look off...

My car is black and i know its easy to match the paint but still im sure a good body shop guy can tell it got painted on that side of it..

I feel like im about to suffer even though is not my fault..

Vendzilla 03-26-2008 08:58 AM

Black is the hardest color to match and be picky, if it doesn't match, tell them to do it again, till they paint the whole car

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 09:01 AM

so do i bitch to the car insurance company?? like when the agent comes ill be like this car wont match if u paint one side.. you guys gotta paint whole thing?

Use to work for State Farm, what kind of insurance coverage do you have and same for him?

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 09:15 AM

i got comprehensive/collision..

Funny thing is his INSURANCE is state farm..

i dont know what type he has, but i got full coverage.. my car is a 2006 infiniti g35..

Anyway what are my options here?

(BTW i dont want my own insurance to go up if its not my fault!!)

Man, let me tell you insurance companies are serious pains in the asses. I was almost killed in a very serious car wreck the day before thanksgiving just a few months ago. 100% the other guys fault. I still have over $8k of medical bills and I still cant see an orthopedist (im still in pain) due to the insurance company refusing to pay up since the wreck happened in another state than the one im insured in.

Good luck dealing with the insurance companies. They are some shifty bastards.

G.A.F 03-26-2008 09:38 AM

Here you have to give the guy's Insurance company 3 "official" budgets of the total repair of the car.
They will choose one and pay you that amount of money. But THAT may take them almost a month to decide. In the meantime, your car is a mess. :Oh crap

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 09:41 AM

what do you mean 3 official budgets??

im confused??

last time i had an accident the insurance company sent THEIR OWN guy to look at my car... then they sent me a check in the mail automatically

Nismo 03-26-2008 09:44 AM

I think he meant estimates from body repair shops.

severe 03-26-2008 09:46 AM

why are you calling his insurance? just call yours. paint never matches 100% no matter how hard you try. if it doesnt match a good shop will have no problems fading out the new paint over the old so it looks perfect. very unlikely to be a full car respray considering how common fading out the paint is. painting an entire side of a car shouldn't be an issue with a good shop.

word of advise, always check the paint out in the sun. never when its getting dark or even indoors.

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 09:48 AM

if i call my insurance company will my rates go up??

Also i need a rental car while his company fixes mine..

I also figured you call the other guys company if he is at fault

GAMEFINEST 03-26-2008 10:10 AM

depends on the ins company

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 10:12 AM

SO million dollar question,

if some guy hit me, and 100% at fault, and i have accident reports, etc.

Should i call MY Company or HIS COMPANy.

im getting mixed opinions on this..

baddog 03-26-2008 10:13 AM

Is your car a two year old car?

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 10:16 AM

well i bought it in dec 2007, its a used 2006 infiniti G35, 28,000 Miles..

So im guessing it was sold to someone in late 2005, so yeah 2yrs old.

If you have full coverage, call your insurance company and let them handle this. That is what you pay for.

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 02:03 PM

hmmm whats the downside of dealing with the other guys insurance

Them trying to rip you off. You pay for full coverage. Let your insurance handle it and they will collect from the other guy's insurance.

You have absolutely nothing to gain be doing it yourself.

This used to be my profession. Take my word for it.

Ron Bennett 03-26-2008 02:19 PM

Dealing with the "other" insurance company offers no advantages - only disadvantages; your insurance company will likely, if not already, found out about it anyways.

Best thing to do is deal only with your insurance company - they will in turn determine / negotiate with the "other" insurance company the amount each will pay ...

And believe it or not, based on the damage you described, your insurance rate likely won't change much, if even at all.

Ron

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 02:38 PM

it shouldnt even change at all.. thats my fear, my insurance changing for an accident thats 100% NOT MY FAULT

you call your insurance...your insurance agent should help you out, thats why you pay them :)

you wont get your car repainted

you have the right to take your car to any bodyshop you choose, you dont need 3 estimates....you choose the best shop in your city

If they raise your rates, cancel and move on to another carrier.

xxweekxx 03-26-2008 03:33 PM

hmmm ok....

xxweekxx 03-27-2008 06:57 AM

xxweekxx 03-31-2008 09:25 AM

Why are you asking advice but not paying any attention to it when given? I used to represent people like you, and I always found it amazing.

Now you know why you should be talking to YOUR carrier. Let them fix your car and let them collect it from the other guy.

baddog 03-31-2008 09:34 AM

BTW, the longer you wait to follow my advice the bigger your headaches are going to be when you finally realize you should have listened to me back on 3/26

xxweekxx 03-31-2008 09:52 AM

just dont want my insurance to go up thats all..

Why would your insurance go up when it was not your fault? You're not making much sense at all. If he hit your car, his insurance is will go up, not yours.

Spyce 03-31-2008 10:40 AM

Whether you call your insurance company or not, they're going to find out. Whether they find out from his insurance co, or from the police report that gets filed. Your insurance shouldn't go up since you're not at fault, but either way they are going to find out, so it's best if you call them directly. Let YOUR insurance company deal with HIS insurance company.

Spyce has it right. They are going to find out. If they raise your rates for an accident that is not your fault it is time to leave anyway.

Persius 03-31-2008 11:58 AM

Listen to Baddog jesus christ man.... Call YOUR insurance company.. They are the pros....
