mushrooms, celery, carrots, savoy cabbage, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, green onions, spinach, leeks

I have a separate drawer for the fruit.

Holly 03-26-2008 07:48 AM

I had to look.

Top drawer- 4 vidalia onions, 2 avocados, a bag of celery, a bag of lemons, and a jar of minced garlic

Bottom drawer- several pomegranates, a couple of tangerines, 1 apple, 2 eggplants, and a head of lettuce that needs to be thrown away

and some ham

CDSmith 03-26-2008 09:04 AM

Just one large white onion at the moment. Had you asked this a few days ago I would have said a couple of turnips, brocolli, cauliflower, baby carrots, and onions --- but day before yesterday I made a killer stew.

And as amazing as it might sound, I am single, male, and not gay.

farkedup 03-26-2008 10:41 AM

I too have beer in mine.... both bud and miller

ztik 03-26-2008 10:58 AM

Onions, green peppers, red peppers, sweet peppers, jalapeno peppers, mushrooms, cabbage, garlic, squash

Below we have potatoes, oranges, apples, lettuce, and a couple bananas

We mainly eat fruit and veggies, woman doesn't eat mammals or poultry, I eat meat only when she isn't here for dinner

oh and tomatoes

SykkBoy 03-26-2008 11:07 AM

I just did a big clean out and had to throw away of lot of dark greenish-grayish black veggies, not sure what they were...some mutant science fair project gone awry maybe...but doing some shopping later today and will replenish

Peaches 03-26-2008 11:16 AM

8 bottles of water in the top one, can of Slimfast in the bottom one. To be fair, I DID have some squash in there until last night.

Folks, DO NOT PUT YOUR TOMATOES IN THE FRIDGE! And you really don't need to put your bananas in there either. ;)

Tom_PM 03-26-2008 11:34 AM

I keep lunch meats and cheese (anything in a closed container) in there since I found that my vegetables last longer if I wrap em loosely in paper towels and keep em on a top shelf. Also encourages me to eat them more when they're closer to eye level and exposed.

BusterBunny 03-26-2008 11:39 AM

i pulled the crisper out so i have an extra space...so nothing...

I only drink it when it's late at night and I absolutely MUST have something and it's either that or a cake. It's the new one with a lot of protein and not much sugar. I like those and EAS - but the EAS are on the shelf, not the crisper right now :thumbsup

MandyBlake 03-26-2008 01:46 PM

there might be a can of pop in there. if not, then its empty lol.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh And here's the funny part - it's not a Slimfast - it's Atkins - I had to check :) But there is a low sugar/high protein Slimfast I can get down.

I know it's all shit. After the stomach surgery I really can't eat much sugar AT ALL (which is a good thing, but sometimes my mind says "I can eat the pie - I just can't leave the house for a day...I'll eat the pie...") so I do have to really watch the sugar amounts on these things. Plus fake sugar has ALWAYS treated me even worse.

I tried on bathing suits today to prepare for a week at the beach with my disgustingly well kept friends from HS. I plan to kill them all while they're sleeping.

KILL_FRENZY 03-26-2008 01:59 PM

oranges and pineapples :)

VeriSexy 03-26-2008 02:05 PM

Lettuce, Carrots, Onions, Peppers

The one good thing about having been the fat kid in school is that if I ever meet any of them again they are more likely to look worse now. When I get down to goal weight I may actually consider attending a reunion just for my own smirking.

D 03-26-2008 02:29 PM

I like vegetables and fruit. :)

1 head of hydroponically grown lettuce, approx 3 ounces of aragula, approx 8 ounces of mixed greens, 9 carrots, 1.2 cucumbers, 2 bunches of asparagus, 1 artichoke, 2/3 a celery bundle, half a tomato, half a lemon, half a head of garlic, a bundle of fresh thyme, 5 green onions, 10 tangerines of differing varieties, 2 apples, 3 asian pears, and a blood orange.

I only put my tomatoes in the fridge after I've cut into them.

While whole, they're kept out, on top of the microwave with the bananas. :winkwink:

And, yep... bananas turn black in a matter of a day or two in the fridge, and look all gross-like. :Oh crap

That's what we call "Banana bread bananas". My stepmother gets all the blackest of black bananas (freezes them if she doesn't have time to bake) and makes THE BEST banana bread out of them - they are SO sweet when overripe. If I have some go bad, they always go in the freezer for her. As a reward, I get banana bread :)

I'm not sure they get sweeter in the fridge though - just black :(

I think you're right... and my mother did the same.. :-)

Oh... and unless they're getting a bit too ripe... you forgot to mention something else that shouldn't go in the fridge, and should, instead, stay out of the fridge in a brown paper bag....

Peaches. :)

If only it would keep us looking more fresh I would give it a go.

GrouchyAdmin 03-27-2008 02:43 AM

Two Fiji Apples, and about 3lbs of oranges. I ate everything else.

EuroRev_Stacey 03-27-2008 03:16 AM

tomatoes, that's it! :(

After Shock Media 03-27-2008 03:27 AM

Next to nothing. I only keep a few things in there that either we do not grow, we did not use up, or as random storage.

Celery, half of an onion (wrapped), and some mushrooms in a brown bag.

Other than that some infused oils and well that's it in the lowest drawer. It currently has a whole chicken in it air drying its skin.

Next drawer up, that's for defrosting meats and or drying/aging them.

Next one up, cheeses, cured meats, some garlic in oil, some olives in oil, and some defrosted roasted peppers and garlic mash in oil.

Why shouldn't tomatoes and potatoes be in the fridge? The area at the supermarket they come from is refrigerated, although it's probably not as cold as an enclosed residential fridge...

Your supermarket sells potatoes in the fridge department. Potatoes go off quicker and turn brown when kept in the fridge. They will last for ages longer in a dark veggie drawer outside of the fridge.

Same here. My dad loved bananas but would only eat them when they were practically green. Once they started getting the least bit ripe, he wouldn't touch them. My mom or I would freeze them and make bread later. But I've never heard of keeping bananas that you're going to eat, in the fridge.

But I do keep my potatoes in the fridge. Anywhere else I keep them, they always sprout because I don't eat them soon enough. I just make sure to take them out ahead of time and let them get room temperature so it doesn't effect my cooking time.

But tomatoes- no fridge. Sometimes I will put one in after it's cut if I know I won't be eating the rest soon, to avoid the fruit flies.

and do not put your garlic in the fridge.

Sarah_Jayne 03-27-2008 07:52 AM

I suspect a lot of what does and doesn't get put in the fridge also has something to do with the climate in which you live.
