Ubuntu Ubuntu!

anyone else use ubuntu?

Ice 03-25-2008 09:22 AM

I have Ubuntu on one of my desktops. It's pretty cool

MikesTraffic 03-25-2008 09:25 AM

I run it on my laptop and I like it, the only reason I keep windows on this machine is because I play games on it and don't feel like dealing with emulators

yah can you let me know what's going on on wine.
I heard it doesn't work and would love to know if it actually does or if any special configurations need to take place.

beta-tester 03-25-2008 09:38 AM

sure... i have ubuntu on all my machines... Just installed hardy 8.04 beta... final will be released in April, can't wait! It'll be with KDE 4.0 which is great!

Ubuntu is at the moment the best Linux for standard PC user, imo!

dav3 03-25-2008 09:45 AM

I was thinking of trying out Kubuntu. What are you thoughts about it?

fuzebox 03-25-2008 09:47 AM

I've been running Linux as my primary desktop for 10 years now... Tried out Ubuntu about 3 years ago and am still running it, it's pretty nice (I swore by Debian before so not much is different).

just a punk 03-25-2008 09:49 AM

Need Photoshop, Flash and Namo WebEditor (or at least Dreamwaver) for Linux.

ya i installed 8.04b about 2 hours ago and im already 90% fully moved over.. i gotta learn Wine to get skype and some other programs going, and import some bookmarks, ftp, ssh data over then im golden...

i feel like a geek-child all over again

its a trip to use the shell *nix commands on my desktop.... usually im on vista, ssh to 4 servers, using *nix commands to get things done ..

Lorenzo 03-25-2008 09:52 AM

Hi I use Ubuntu on my laptop, I find it really performing, very custmizable and pretty easy for standard use.

As far as I know, wine supports Photoshop 7 only. I think the same refers to Flash/DW. Older versions only.

If I'm not completely off, there are some "portable" version of the new updates that will work under Wine/Crossover/Etc. I've only read this a few places, and haven't tested myself.

beta-tester 03-25-2008 11:10 AM

i tried cs2 and it works fine with wine ;)

NobleSavage 03-25-2008 11:25 AM

Ubuntu rocks! :thumbsup I only use XP when I absolutely have to.

fuzebox 03-25-2008 11:27 AM

P.S. I've been using the GIMP for years for all my graphics needs without a hitch... I find it way more intuitive than photoshop.

chelo - adultcopywriters 03-25-2008 12:33 PM

I stick to Fedora

GIMP is good but sorry I'd rather use Photoshop

It's not native. Isn't worth switching to another system then :2 cents:

bufferover 03-25-2008 01:50 PM

Installed couple days ago by far not bad

GrouchyAdmin 03-25-2008 03:37 PM

I must be one of the few Kubuntu users who really dislikes KDE4. If I wanted Vista-Alike, I'd use that.

Ungabunga Linux is all fail.
The only thing going for it is the name, everything else is pretty lame.

chelo - adultcopywriters 03-26-2008 09:21 AM

So far Linux is for servers and windows is for end-users. Can't get any simpler than that.

martinsc 03-26-2008 09:26 AM

i love it.
i'm running a machine on 7.1, but will upgrade to 8.1 as soon as it's out ... :thumbsup

I have it installed on my laptop & my desktop. But I always use Windows. The ATI drivers isn't good enough yet.

Yoni 03-31-2008 12:12 PM

I'm playing with Ubuntu on VirtualBox. It's nice but still isn't for an average user.
