Conversation I just had with two workmen
 

I was having a hallway carpet fitted today. When workmen come into my home it is only a matter of time before they ask about my accent. Then they nearly always ask which country I prefer and then I say that I liked both but that I have lived in the UK since I was 19 so it is pretty much my home now. Then they try to convince me that I am nuts to like the UK. Pretty much the same thing every time.

This time one of them goes 'but don't you hate all the immigrants in London?' ..to which I replied 'well, I *am* an immigrant'. Both of them instantly chimed in 'Oh, no, I don't consider Americans to be immigrants'.

I decided it was time to get back to doing the carpet.
