John McCain: "Strategy for Victory in Iraq" - must read.

"Strategy for Victory in Iraq: Bolster Troops on the Ground

A greater military commitment now is necessary if we are to achieve long-term success in Iraq. John McCain agrees with retired Army General Jack Keane that there are simply not enough American forces in Iraq.

More troops are necessary to clear and hold insurgent strongholds....."

From: http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/...7ea83f11d8.htm

As a non American it's hard to get a handle on the general public view - but please tell me the feeling on the ground is that McCain has no hope no matter if Clinton or Obama run against him?

IRAQ is the reason the US economy is heading down the toilet. How can any sane person want to commit more money to it?

Also - let it be said that - Al Qaeda got what they wanted by 9-11. The aim was to de-stabilize the USA's financial might. It took 7 years - but thanks to Bush it's happened.

Let’s hope sanity prevails - no matter which democrat runs.

And to those of you that say - "fuck you - you are not in USA or American what do you care?" - I say it is a very sad fact that due to the size of your economy when you go down we all go down to some extent. It is a sad fact that no other countries political system has as much world influence as yours does.

Here is a tip, no matter who the Democrats nominate . . . . McCain wins.

NewbieNudes 03-18-2008 09:10 PM

A vote for McCain surely has to be a vote to commit the USA and as a by product the rest of the world to a recession the likes of which has not been seen since the great depression.

Socks 03-18-2008 09:10 PM

Baddog has spoketh. No other opinions matter below this line:

Christina Muller 03-18-2008 09:11 PM

Thats my tip too!

As a viewer from outside of USA it seems to me that a McCain win is looking more and more likely.

Odin 03-18-2008 09:13 PM

I am not an economist, but I think it has something more to do with a credit crisis hitting the major banks than Iraq. Alot of the money being 'committed' to Iraq is already spent money, money for bombs that were already being built, money for soldiers wages that were already being paid and so on. That said, I said prior to day 1 that the whole Iraq war business was a load of shit, but lets not blow it completely out of proportion.

tony286 03-18-2008 09:14 PM

I disagree with Baddog if the economy sinks more, people are going to see a vote for mccain as 4 more yrs of failed W policies. Also McCain doesnt want to see this but those people have been fighting for hundreds of years. We are not going to win no matter what we do.

What didnt help this was having borrow to fund the war helped put the dollar in the toilet. You dont cut taxes during wartime its stupid.

Don't worry. You can always move to Alice Springs and eat from the termite mounds.

spacedog 03-18-2008 09:19 PM

Dumb fuckers should have left Saddam in power & there wouldn't be any fighting over there except for them fighting themselves..

I hope McCain does win..

moeloubani 03-18-2008 09:21 PM

Too late now, you went in and broke it and now you have to fix it, and McCain is right, the best way to fix it would be to flood that place with troops and give enemies no place to run and hide.

That's what its down to today, you either must fix it or you must go back and time and not start it, since one isn't possible then you must go with the other.

Democrats' plan is just to pull out, but that won't work because it'll leave a country broken and with more terrorism than it had when they went in - which is the point of the war, right, to abolish terrorism?

With all repsect this view is totally naive, as Bush was/is - there is no way to abolish terrorism.

smutsellers 03-18-2008 09:26 PM

McCain's a piece of shit, but then again, who else is there? Obama or Clintin. We're fucked either way.

We should never have gone to Iraq in the first place, but now that Bush already fucked up that idea, we might as well flood it and whoop some ass.

You know its easy to say that when the avg american has been asked to sacrifice anything. to fix it we would have to be there forever and how many of our kids have to die for nothing.

farkedup 03-18-2008 09:33 PM

it is a FACT that war helps an economy, unfortunately we're not at war... Invasion forces HURT an economy so lets just go to war with the whole fuckin middle east and turn that fuckin section of the planet to glass already. Nothing good other than oil comes out of it.

Not likely? Fuck it lets just remove china as a trade partner, make it a criminal act to have anything chinese made, that'll fix our economy... ditch this chinese made GARBAGE! Tax the hell out of imports to other countries and make it illegal to call an 800 number and get sent to fuckin India!

Fuck being responsible for the problems of the entire world. We're completely fucked and we need to take care of ourselves and send a big FU to all third world nations and let them be somebody elses problem.

And McCain will be a one termer. First of all age. Second the country will be so fucked up and still in Iraq he'll practically hand the 2012 election to John Edwards.

To tell you the truth, I pray to God that your conclusions are correct. Edwards in 2012.

I would have liked to have seen him in 2008.

As many as it takes, you voted for Bush, then voted him back after starting the war, you guys will suffer the consequences as bleak as that is!

NewbieNudes 03-18-2008 10:17 PM

This thread is mildly depressing.

Well in my opinion you can't 100% abolish it but you can do things that can severely limit it.

For example: the US drops its unconditional support for Israel - result would be tons of arabs that have just lost their reason to fight the US.

Let them two duke it out, no reason for the US to be supporting either side.

Many economists are making the link between the US economic slump and the Iraq war. The Iraq war was motived by a more or less emotional response to 9-11 (the reasons for the war were fabricated remember)

Not rocket science. You can't spend trillions on a war and not affect your economy or the value of your $.

See: http://www.businessspectator.com.au/...R?OpenDocument for example.
