Why do girls like to dance so much?

I have my own theory, but I wanna hear what you guys think.

pink_in_the_middle 10-10-2002 03:03 AM

what makes you think of these things? lol
well my theory is that girls who can dance are good lovers :Graucho

Dancing lets you let loose..it's very relaxing and feels good. It's a turn on...good exercise. It's fun plain and simple :thumbsup

Sorry to ask this but r u male or female? No really I have no clue thats why I'm asking. If you're a femal that doesn't enjoy dancing then come over here and let me show you how to let loose :Graucho

It panders to every womans need for "look at me! look at me!"

They only have meaning in their lives when someone is paying attention to them.

I'll go with that. There's obvious exceptions but generally they just don't look as stupid as most men trying to dance.

Dancing - that strange ritual. Like most sociological questions, I would think there are many reasons rather than just one. People like to dance to meet people, express oneself, be a part of something, to feel good (exercise), or to show off their dancing skills or their body. Some people must also experience something they would call "spiritual" while dancing. At least, my father's hippy friends at Grateful Dead shows a few years ago seem like they did.

It seems to me, from being at clubs, that as many men like to dance as women. I haven't seen the male/female ratio at a line dance. Maybe someone could report.

Another interesting question, why do some people experience embarassment and feel uncomfortable when they dance?

I get a bit uncomfortable when I dance (seriously) for kelly. It's alot easier to dance when intoxicated :1orglaugh

I dunno how to explane it..i guuess i get scared thinking " what incase he doesn't like it"

I mean i know he will but i always think it. When i'm drunk helll who gives a shit :Graucho When intoxicated you're not really giving a crap what other ppl think of you. It's your time to make an ass of yourself :winkwink:

"i'm sorry did i make an ass of myself in my post?"

No, I was speaking generally. Despite the rumors PunkWorld is spreading, I'm nice. Don't you know?

Firehorse 10-10-2002 04:15 AM

Dance serves many purposes. It is a form of self expression, it is part of courtship ritual, or a precursor to sexually connecting with someone, or a way to meet people, communicate non verbally, exercise, or release tension, a way to temporarily transcend thinking and accentuate feeling.

Women dig to do this thru dance generally more than men.

I am sure there are many more reasons.

Labret is right. If they need to dance so bad -- why don't they dance at home? Some of my girlfriends did dance at home which I thought was cool -- but most of the time they need that group therapy. But I think it's a little more than that...

I think dance is really a complicated subject actually... if it wasn't 5am I wouldn't be talking about this either hehe... On the rare times that I have smoked weed -- a few things happen. 1. My appreciation for music is heightened... I can go into a state of euphoria where I feel like I am in sync with the fucking universe -- this music has been created just for me -- and there is an integration of the creation of the dance <-> creation of the music that is free of the limitations of time and space... This is a very personal experience and I'm not one of those social smokers that sits around laughing about stupid shit just to be "happy"... Needless to say -- I turn up the volume to the max... and I don't even think about it -- I just get up and start dancing... as if by instinct. Ordinarily this never happens -- even if I am drunk out of my mind. Sometimes I wonder if my parents smoked too much weed when I was conceived for me to need a drug to experience the joys of dance that "normal" people enjoy without too much thought... LOL. These dance sessions usually turn sweaty and intense where my mind is working in high gear... last time it happened I was doing all sorts of analysis on the qualities of movement... the visualization of the character of movements, accelerative qualities, tension vs. relaxation and other dualities, as well as volumes of other shit that would flip out your mind... The end result is that I'm sweaty, exhausted, and feel fantastic... if anyone were to witness what I actually did they would probably need to see therapist afterwards -- their ego would be challenged and they would probably lose consciousness... LOL Otherwise I don't care to or feel the need to dance in public... It seems that girls are more easily able to tap in to that sort of euphoria...

I think your upbringing has something to do with it also -- it's a matter of training... like martial arts...

One more thing... think about the beat when multiple people dance in a group. People are incorrect to think that there is one correct way to move to a "beat" -- take a simple example -- move up and down -- one person can move up to the beat -- the other person down to the beat... If everyone is moving up and you are moving down -- you seem to be off beat -- but in reality it's all the same beat... Exactly the same way a rapper can change the tempo from fast to slow and still be on point even though the beat has not changed... Anyway so dancing in a group you become syncronized/integrated into some kind of wierd movement orgy where you relinquish some of your decision making process whether you realize it or not -- you may think that you are original or have some kind of self expression -- but in reality you are being influenced by those people dancing around you...

:2 cents: :2 cents: :2 cents:

Just as those who like to dance for the, "Look at me" attempt, there are also those who are self-conscious who think, "Oh no.. everyone is looking at me.."

Dax 10-10-2002 06:15 AM

Dancing is good for women to show off.. like someone said is all about attention. If it was not for attention why would a girl get on a stage/speaker and dance with sexual tones?

Is all about: Watch how good of a fuck I can be, I can move like this and I would be the best fuck of your life... So then guys can hit on her and she has her attention and has her choice...

If you all have not been to Miami, you gotta go dancing down here.. is something different.. is ALL ABOUT SEX....

Peace!

Carrie 10-10-2002 06:21 AM

For some of us, it's not a question of "why do I dance", but "how can I not??"
The bass pumping through your chest, the lights all around you, the music is calling and you just can't stop yourself... you've gotta just GO...
And then you're out there, and it's just the music and you. It's not "ooh look at me" - the other people don't matter at all - it's something intensely personal, powerful, and uncontrollable...
It's an escape. You can get out there and just let go, get lost in the music and just BE part of the whole thing for a few short minutes...
And then the song ends and you're back in this shitty world.
How can you NOT get out there and dance?

That's why there are so many famous chick artists.

It's an exhibitionistic outlet. Because the female sexual role involves attracting attention from suitable partner, it's a "strutting their stuff" thing.

cherrylula 10-10-2002 09:47 AM

Because it ends with an "ugly bed dance", if done correctly.

Dancing normally leads to sex if you are any good.

salsbury 10-10-2002 10:33 AM

i think it's an attention thing, too. but then again, so is just being at the club in the first place.

i hate to dance, i know several girls that like it and want me to dance with them. why? i'm guessing it's because they know it makes me uncomfortable. its a power thing for them.
