Hey affilate rep assholes... stop putting my username and password in my SPAM

Hey affilate rep assholes... stop putting my username and password in my SPAM every fucking month with your FHGs! What I let a domain go, forgot to update your backend and someone setup a catch all?

Fucking idiots. Send me the galleries, send me the Xsells, I dont fucking care. Keep my scripted personal info out of it.

"just in case you forgot your password..."

RuthB 03-17-2008 03:58 PM

We never put your password in newsletters or any email announcements, we only ever provide your password upon request.

We include your username in FHG links and other affiliate links in the newsletter/announcements for ease of use. Please get in touch with me if you're having any problems with WEGCash mailouts.

YES I agree, I hate getting emails with that info in it, it defeats the entire purpose of having a password for that.

D 03-17-2008 04:06 PM

Jebus. Who the hell is doing that?

Probably the same peeps that put your email info in the "to" or "cc" field in any mass mailing, and not "bcc."

The username/password dealio's almost worse.

SHANESWORLD 03-17-2008 04:06 PM

lolll.

who did that? thats pretty dumb.

SHANESWORLD 03-17-2008 04:08 PM

lol, nevermind, just found out. figured i'd check my email since i am signed up to most programs. sure enough i found two that sent it like that.

c0py-BANNED FOR LIFE 03-17-2008 04:51 PM

im having some big problems with this

shermo 03-17-2008 04:53 PM

Agreed. I hate nothing more than seeing this in a weekly or daily newsletter. :(

just a punk 03-17-2008 06:21 PM

That's a really idiotic practice. May be next time you will put there my bank info along with the detailed stats?

Yeah... almost. They're both bone-headed, no doubt, but - since you press the issue - I still think actively sharing my email address with dozens, if not hundreds, of strangers is a bit more bone-headed than passively sending my personal information to another because I fail to keep my information secure/up to date.

Just my own opinion, though.

I guess it depends on how soon before the next email you modified it. Or if you just do it after each newsletter. :)

What's worse, is that if you can see your password unencrypted in the email messages sent to you, it means they are also unencrypted in the databases on the systems....extremely bad practice, not to mention extremely insecure.

Nats uses a 2 way cipher for its webmaster passwords. Not sure on the security of that, i'm sure anyone w/ a copy could make a hash table reasonably quickly, but at least they're not plaintext.

Might as well be plain text. If you have access to the cipher you can create...well, you obviously have the idea.

Security through obscurity, which relies on ioncube / zend.
Hey, you don't have to tell me. Like I say, it'd be a trivial exercise to make a hash table.
