has anyone had much use with them? do they work :warning

GPS Track Stick is a GPS logging device. Utilizing Global Positioning System satellites, the track stick will accurately log its location in pre-set intervals. The GPS Track Stick works anywhere on planet earth. Built into every GPS Track Stick is a USB 1.1 connector, which makes downloading data onto your PC a breeze.

* Know Where Anyone Or Anything Has Been
* Runners can accurately keep detailed records of their daily runs
* Parents - know where your kidshave been
* R/C Hobbyists - Cars, Boats, Planes, Rockets (Altitude)
* Need to track time/distance?
* Employers - give to your employees; monitor routes and speeds :Oh crap

the thing that I found about this, is that the ones that are real time, are the size of the old Motorola flip phones. Quite big. The track sticks are more for a send out, and then connect to the puter to download where it has been

Great for a PI, but thats it.

I might have to try it out!

Hmm, it doesn't show realtime info does it? I mean it saves GPS data, and you can read that AFTER you plugged it into your pc?

I saw a small software tool, install it on your phone(with GPS) send a special formatted textmessage to this phone, and you will reply the exact GPS location.

I have Lojack in my laptop and I put the (cleaned up) laptop in my luggage. So far haven't had to use it yet, but even if it doesn't find my luggage, it will find the bastard who has my computer!

You can get similar devices that are intended to be used with digital cameras. You run software as you import the images, it matches up the capture times with the track log and geotags them.

I've been thinking of hacking together something that tracks where my car has been and quietly downloads the data via wifi when it's sitting in the garage. I often go for random drives so it would be cool to look back in 10 years and see all the roads I've gone down!

I wonder how long it will be before they start integrating GPS into laptops, with software that phones home every time it boots... if it's stolen you can see exactly where it's located when it's next switched on.

one of my programmer friends went out to a conference in vegas for programming and someone stole his laptop out of the room; little did they know that he had a camera recording and uploading the images to his server...

they got away with the camera and laptop but my friend pulled the pictures off his server and it was the maid...wtf...

moral of the story do not leave your shit around for someone else to take.

:thumbsup
