okay who here is running Windows Vista and likes it?

I just purchased a Dell XPS desktop computer and its my first experience with Vista.

I can not believe what a resource hog vista is... I hooked up an APC Battery backup to the system and its having nothing but problems, the computer turning off and on, Vista not able to see USB devices etc... I think its Vista not compatible with the battery backup.

Right now Vista seems like a piece of shit to me... Any other experiences?

LauraLee 03-13-2008 11:45 AM

I have it and have disliked my new machine since the day I bought it.

Phoenix 03-13-2008 11:46 AM

i am using it and i like it

i dont see the issues with it myself

Jdoughs 03-13-2008 11:46 AM

Have Vista, and its not bad at all.

It does kill my laptop though, about what you said about resources, i dont look at it like a "resource hog" its more like a 'resource user'.

You never have unused ram, or ram just sitting there doing nothing, it seems to split up your resources across what you are doing for best performance.

My biggest problem and issue was with getting drivers and working programs from the other companies making products for windows. But after the first few months everything seemed to be available.

Im using Vista Ultimate.

Shoplifter 03-13-2008 11:47 AM

I like it...Faster than XP for me.

Also no more browser hijacks...It's much more secure.

martinsc 03-13-2008 11:47 AM

I have one pc running Vista and I love it.

rock-reed 03-13-2008 11:49 AM

I have been running Vista Ultimate for about 6 months now.

Overall it is ok.

But the few problems it does has...makes me wish I was still running Win XP-Pro

starpimps 03-13-2008 11:49 AM

it came with my new computer...it took jus about 2 days for me to start slicing my wrists. back to xp and loving it

Xrated J 03-13-2008 11:50 AM

i havnt had any problems with it

calista 03-13-2008 11:51 AM

Vista is great..but I'm not too much familiar with its features....:thumbsup

stickyfingerz 03-13-2008 11:52 AM

Love it. Fully switched over now. New laptop has it, switched desktop over. Ya there will be some difference you have to adapt to. Such is life. Things change and there might be some bumps to get over. Vista doing awesome for me. :thumbsup

pornguy 03-13-2008 11:54 AM

I dont have many issues with it. Get new drivers for the battery back up, and that should work fine.

Slick 03-13-2008 11:55 AM

I've been running it since the day it came out and I love it :) No major problems and it's VERY stable.

Bojangles 03-13-2008 12:14 PM

Got it with my new laptop. Sometimes I wish I still had XP Pro. I'll probably end up sticking with Vista, though. By the way, Isn't it supposed to be faster than XP? There's a few things about Vista I dislike. Every time I plug-in my external HD, I always have to re-install the drivers for it. Although Vista comes with the drivers, it can't seem to find them. I always have to point it to the driver or else I'm not going to be using my external HD. It seems like Vista has a horrible memory. Such as the start menu, how it lists your most used programs? That always resets itself when you restart the computer. Vista just annoys the living shit out of me sometimes.

BuggyG 03-13-2008 12:23 PM

when is SP1 going to come out?? Am thinking about getting vista, but want to wait till SP1 comes out so fixes some of the driver probs etc..etc..

D 03-13-2008 12:26 PM

I've been running mine pretty hard for nearly 6 months now.

Only a few minor issues. Over all, I like it, and I wonder why people claim to have so many issues with it.

But yes - it is a bit of a resource hog.

BJ 03-13-2008 12:30 PM

Just got a lenovo T61p and out of the box the thing was BSOD'ing on me every 10 minutes. I installed all the windows updates and all the Lenovo updates and its worked good so far TODAY. Im hoping I fixed all the problems or else the laptop is going back.

marcop 03-13-2008 12:38 PM

I bought two HP desktops in January, and am running Vista, and like it.

Dave PSC 03-13-2008 01:00 PM

I've had VISTA since the beta stage and like it. The new service pac solves almost every issue I've ever had with it.

NickSunshine 03-13-2008 01:05 PM

i love my vista box.

i have been a windows 2000 pro loyalist for the last 8 years, i never really liked xp.

i was really surprised to find myself liking vista almost immediately :thumbsup

PaulB IYP 03-13-2008 01:07 PM

Vista is great....get with the times and get over XP already....XP done, byebye

severe 03-13-2008 01:15 PM

I run just about everything on my vista machines and have no problems. i think apache took longer to get running. anyway outside of a couple explorer / folder view type of annoyances its been good. overall seems more stable than xp and the unix like ram usage is a plus

Scott McD 03-13-2008 01:17 PM

I'm using it and haven't had any real problems... Yet !!

upgraded all my desktops to vista w/core2duo and 2gigs RAM.

and these machines can finally run programs 24/7 that would consistantly crash high end winxp machines.

much more crash resistant the XP, much more.

Sosa 03-13-2008 01:23 PM

I don't have any problems with it to be honest.

cspdinc 03-13-2008 01:25 PM

look online for a site with 50 tips to make vista run faster. Made the vista unit I was using a dream compared to outa the box. (BTW stock vista only has CPU 50% enabled. fix that and you'll be a lot better. that and turn off UAC.

KILL_FRENZY 03-13-2008 01:58 PM

It's not bad at all :)

tiger 03-13-2008 02:14 PM

I will upgrade when it comes out of beta.

TNVeric 03-13-2008 04:07 PM

vista runs so sloowwwww on my laptop. only have a gig of ram. could that be the issue?

ungratefulninja 03-13-2008 04:23 PM

My HTPC runs Vista Home Premium. I built it to play DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray. It has 3 gigs of RAM. I've had some issues with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo and the text-based LCD on the outside of the HTPC case for displaying movie info, time/weather, news, etc.

Overall I'd say it's been a positive experience. My choice was buying Media Center version of XP or using a "free" copy of Vista I had laying around from an Intel promo. I had to immediately disable UAC and end up having to disable sleep mode because it tended to require a reboot to come back from sleep mode.

I would not hesitate to get another PC with Vista, I would just make sure to have a good chunk of RAM. I got 2 gigs of Corsair Dominator for $30 after mail-in rebate, so there's no excuse not to have plenty of memory.

More likely on a laptop is your videocard. If its an older laptop with an older video card dont bother with vista on it to be honest.

To those that think vista is slower than xp you are wrong. Ran Xp on this system im on at the moment intel duocore same specs and vista is way faster.

FreakinWebmaster 03-13-2008 07:32 PM

Thanks for all the input... I will change the settings so the CPU will run faster

Phoenix 03-13-2008 07:34 PM

wow when a bunch of webmasters..who are usually highly critical...give you the thumbs up...you have finally done something right

candyflip 03-13-2008 07:41 PM

I installed it to play some games on my Mac and I don't see any issues. It takes a few minutes to get used to some minor user interface changes but for the most part I can't see any problem with it.

Vista Enterprise here, so it didn't come loaded with any, well...much, bloat. Sometimes that really helps.

pornask 03-13-2008 07:49 PM

Great OS, got it on my new laptop and have no words of praise

Rochard 03-13-2008 10:02 PM

I have Vista on my laptop and it works fine for me.

I no longer spend much time trying to tweak everything on my computers. It takes too much time and it does't really improve anything. I basically run the OS straight out of the box.

I've never had any problems with Vista, but I don't hook much up to my laptop other than my camera.

hershie 03-13-2008 10:08 PM

Anyone know a good site that explains all the "upgrades" or differences from XP? I would love a good tutorial/intro to Vista as I think I am missing out on lots of its features.

Spunky 03-13-2008 10:12 PM

I'm using it and haven't had any real problems.
