ICQ down?

I can't even get ICQ2Go to launch. Anyone else experiencing this?

CIVMatt 03-12-2008 11:32 AM

No but icq sucks, yahoo all the way :(

TroubleTonya 03-12-2008 11:33 AM

If you just got a windows update that needed your computer to be rebooted, and THEN icq crashed... this is why.

D 03-12-2008 11:33 AM

I'm still up, and conversing... but I haven't closed it down in at least a couple of days.

Well, I rebooted when I could not get it to launch. No help.

The fact that I get a 404 when trying to launch ICQ2Go leads me to believe it is a little deeper than a Windows update. Guess I can do a sys restore to yesterday and see what happens.

Not as of yet, but my IT guys are working on it. IF/WHEN I hear a solution I'll share nicely!

J$tyle$ 03-12-2008 11:47 AM

Same here!

I just posted the same thing on "the other board"!

MegachopsMcNasty 03-12-2008 11:55 AM

yeah it's the windows update that's causing the problem. if you can help it don't install the windows update. I didn't have much of a say in the matter as there was a sudden power outage here this morning and my computer rebooted. thus no icq for me for now.

I'm playing around with it and i'll let you know what I find.

Sosa 03-12-2008 11:56 AM

MegachopsMcNasty 03-12-2008 12:03 PM

think I fixed mine. changed the server port from 5190 to 443. restarted pidgin and it did the trick.

Well, goodgirl can't launch hers either and she knows for sure she has not done an update in the last two days. I am not sure about mine because it is automated.

If you suspect it is a Windows update causing the issue have you tried restoring your system to two days ago and seeing if that helps?

pidgin is not ICQ :2 cents:

Sly 03-12-2008 12:06 PM

I can't get it working from my desktop. About to try my laptop.

Sly 03-12-2008 12:07 PM

D 03-12-2008 12:12 PM

I'm chatting with various peeps on ICQ (even if it does seem a bit slower than normal)... and see plenty of others online at present.

I'm well aware of that. the fact is people are unable to connect to the ICQ server. I was unable to connect to the server so I changed the port and was able to connect again.

Well, I decided to give the port you suggested a chance, it failed. I then let ICQ auto configure 2 or 3 times, also failed.

Did a sys restore to Sunday, still failed.

While doing it goodgirl called and said hers started working again, so I suspect it is a limited outage that some of us will have to wait for restoral.

pr0 03-12-2008 12:39 PM

their servers are boned in certain area's....its a quite large outage

try relaying through one of your servers as a bounce etc. & you may be able to connect based on being (in another location and thus) connected to a different server

man i hope they stay down for a couple days....everyone would have to change messengers in this business : )

OY 03-12-2008 01:05 PM

I had a windows update done and before that (this morning) it did NOT work for me. Now it does.
