U.S. = World's Top Incarcerator. More than 1 in every 100 adults in Jail.
I heard the statistic on NPR earlier this week, quoting the Pew Study.
They also mentioned, on the same radio broadcast, that 1 out of every 2 individuals in jail in the U.S. is Black. Here's what the Washington Post says: "More than one in 100 adults in the United States is in jail or prison, an all-time high that is costing state governments nearly $50 billion a year and the federal government $5 billion more, according to a report released yesterday. With more than 2.3 million people behind bars, the United States leads the world in both the number and percentage of residents it incarcerates, leaving far-more-populous China a distant second, according to a study by the nonpartisan Pew Center on the States." True but then ya goto look at it like we give people alot of freedom. What people do with that freedom tend to lead to jail.
However ya can also look at it like we put the wrong guys in prison, I wouldnt say Drug user's and Marijuana user's are good candidates for prison, yet here in America we got no problem stocking up our prisons with them sort of folks. But the fact remains yeah we imprison alot of people lOL! If I recall right in California and in COlorado we got prisons made that are empty just in the event there is civil unrest. IE: Prisons for future Political Prisoners and rebels should people start pulling thier heads out thier asses and realise America has alot of problems that need fixing. |
soon we will all be slaves..

PS: I used to listen to NPR alot, they always go off on the Conspiracy theories good. It got to the point where it freaked me out to listen.
Otherwise I would end up in one of them prisons, hearing the "America is falling" rhetoric day in day out definatly can make ya paranoid. |
Do these people get included into the unemployment rate?

You want to cut down on crime in the US? Bring back all those manufacturing jobs that were sent overseas. It is that very workforce who is now out of decent jobs, living in blighted neighborhoods where one thing leads to another and they end up in prison. |
