the issue is that it didnt decode the bar code..... hmmmm it will be hard to get a good shot of thebar code with a camera phone .... ill restet

we use the hand held lasers for the books and stuff and they are dead on accurate.... i mean for a picture bar code to be decoded the ssoftware reeally has to be reallyyyy sophisticated.... ill do some mroe tests

Well, then I think my last comment may be pretty relevant. I highly doubt every item you can pick up at 7-11 is in their database.

Try with an electronic device. Go price a TV or something.

i have an webapp on my iphone called barCode .. i enter the barcode
it pulls up reviews of the item from amazon and i can get a price range from that

why not just enter the barcode #'s? Would seem to be easier, and less conspicuous since most stores won't let you take photos in them.

There's another service that's been doing this for quite some time, you just call them instead of taking the picture. And it works on all phones ;)

Not bad, it's not a new technology though, my 1-2 years old SE P990I phone can if you take a picture of a business card find all the relevant details and store it under a new contact, pretty sweet feature and it works.
BAR codes should not be a big problem, majority of products will have their BAR code registered and therefor it will be unique as well since the cost of registering a bar code is a lot lower than to reprint all boxes it is written on if someone else got the same bar code registered

so from now on people will shop at best buy and future shop because the price guarrentee will mean you will always get the best price.

That price guarantee is bullshit. I bought a new mouse there, and a week later realized I could get it down the street for $50 less. So I go in with the ad from the competitor and they said they can't match it because the competitor isn't an authorized Logitech dealer. So I go home to find out who is, and guess who the ONLY authorized dealers in Canada are? Future Shop and Best Buy. Fucking scammers. :mad:
