They really should have a munchy aisle.

Just one aisle you could go to and it would have all the good snacks there. I hate having to wander around the entire store so I can figure out what I want.

What would you want to see there?

Microwave cakes?
Asian rice cracker mix with those wasabi peas?
Mixed nuts?

tony286 03-08-2008 09:24 PM

thats a good idea

aico 03-08-2008 09:25 PM

just go to 7-11 or AM/PM.

Spunky 03-08-2008 09:30 PM

Ding dongs and Cashews is all I need

Too limited of options. I have both kitty-corner to each other just down the street. Very low quality munchies.

It may be junk food, but I want the top of the junk food chain, not the bottom of it.

tony286 03-08-2008 09:33 PM

that would be a great name for a 24 hr place that sold snacks "Munchies".

I thought about adding ding dongs as one of the default foods.

I went to a party last year where they had these chips from Frito Lay that was a combination of all their "cheesy" chips, like Cheetos, Sun Ships, Doritos and a couple others. I have never seen them again. I am wondering if they had them imported in or something. But they would be a must.

If they delivered they could be nationwide within months.

i had that once at a party - i just figured the hostess bought all of them seperately and mixed them in a big bowl. it was an awesome mixture.

I think they are those candy dots that come on strips of paper. The ones that back in the late 70's and early 80's my mother wouldn't let me have because she said crazy people were putting out acid that looked the same. I can't see them without thinking of my mom trying to be acid patrol.

hollinator 03-20-2008 01:39 PM

Oddly enough, the mix you're talking about is called "Munchies Cheese Fix". It has Cheetos, Doritos, Cheddar Sun Chips and Pretzels. We have it in our vending machine here ;o)

I for one would love to have Snap Pea Crisps, chips and salsa, mozzarella sticks and taquitos...

You can still buy it, there are a couple of companies that make a similar mix. The one you had is the Frito Lay Snack Mix called "Munchies". It is available in Classic Mix and the Cheese Fix.

If that happened I'm sure local gov'ts would find some way to make junk food considered drug paraphernalia as they did with bottled water and glow sticks for raves.

ADL Colin 03-20-2008 02:00 PM

Hmmm. So why are the chips typically in a completely different aisle than cookies? There must be a good reason.

Because they want you to wander around and buy something else too.

D 03-20-2008 02:30 PM

The Albertson's off Van Nuys and Sherman Way has exactly that.

It's a decent-sized square area between their pharmacy and bakery, and contains pretty much anything in the store that could be identified by "munchies"... from peanut butter to popcorn to gum to chips to cookies to crackers... even breakfast and granola bars.

When we hit that location up, I usually spend at least a few minutes wondering around in that section.

No, like a hard candy that breaks down to dust when you crunch hard. You have to bite them off of pry them off with your fingers. I used to end up getting more soggy paper than actual candy in my mouth. They are the sort of thing that kids that got wax lips would also have. Those and the crack that was/is pixie sticks.

We definitely had different tastes in candy.

We buy the hot munchies all the time.

Frito Lay Munchies

purplehaze 03-20-2008 03:50 PM

i think they do that so you end up buying more food. you know what else is bullshit? they (at least the ralph's by my house) 're-organize' the shelves like every 6 months so just about the time i figure out where the good munchies are, they go and rearrange it on me. it's all a conspiracy to keep you in there longer and make you buy more food in the process.

i just discovered european munchie food and it is incredible! doner kebabs and currywurst are the ill...too bad i can't find them anywhere in the states now:(

I used to have those all the time as a kid - but only, I think, because my grandparents always got them for me.

Don't recall being that much a fan of the paper element. :)

My favorite, as a kid, were those long jolly rancher sticks... I wonder if they even still make those any more.

Yeah, I would have never searched out the paper dot things but they were more things I dealt with when they were given to me.

I have never really been very candy crazy (good thing or I would have been even more of a fat kid) but I will admit that Jolly Ranchers kick tushy. I have finally started to see some here.

I have always liked chocolate malt balls though...like Whoppers.

Remember those Milky Way ice cream bars? Those were the best thing ever!

But now I can find them anywhere. They still have the Snickers ice cream bars, but those weren't nearly as good the the Milky Way ones.

dynastoned 03-21-2008 04:45 AM

gotta have some beef jerky in the mix as well..

You can get the Milky Way ones in the UK still.

I remember when the Snickers ones came out and the started serving them once a week in our school cafeteria and it was like a border rush each time.
