Was 'Hostel' a good movie?

Anyone see it?
Worth renting? Was it super super gorey?

Porn Farmer 03-07-2008 07:58 PM

No, it was a shitty movie. Don't waste your time.

Bad acting, no suspense, ridiculous plot and ending.

Aquarius 03-07-2008 07:59 PM

I didn't watched and it is not in my plans doing so.

HouseHead 03-07-2008 08:01 PM

How much does it cost you to rent? :D

It wasnt that bad of a movie.. The first one is much better than the second

tony286 03-07-2008 08:01 PM

its like soft core porn.

Laosan 03-07-2008 08:08 PM

It's ok to watch if you have some spare time.

dav3 03-07-2008 08:54 PM

I liked it.

L-Pink 03-07-2008 08:57 PM

I had a similar experience at a Holiday Inn once which is why I don't travel cheap anymore.

geeknik 03-07-2008 09:20 PM

I liked it. I haven't seen the "sequel" though.

Bojangles 03-07-2008 09:36 PM

Horrible movie. First 40 mins it follows some guys around and you see quite a bit of titties. After that it's a boring non-suspenseful movie with very little blood. Is it gorey? No. The Final Destination movies are more gorey than Hostel, no lie.

BabeHunter 03-08-2008 12:11 AM

i liked it, then 2nd movie sucked

but the first was pretty good

Jens Van Assterdam 03-08-2008 12:37 AM

its one of those "must-seen" flicks :)

bashbug 03-08-2008 05:17 AM

Lots of hot girls and tits

VeriSexy 03-08-2008 05:59 AM

I thought it was great

Bojangles 03-08-2008 10:19 AM

Don't get me wrong, although stolen, the idea of the movie itself was pretty cool. It was just a horrible movie. As for the second, it's basically the same as the first. Instead of following guys, it follows girls. Instead of soft-core porn in the first forty minutes, the girls basically walk around checking stuff out.

Pornopat 03-08-2008 10:22 AM

Its a great movie!
You have to have some intelligence though to be able to appreciate it.

CDSmith 03-08-2008 10:28 AM

I thought it was worth watching. If you're a fan of horror movies then watch it, definitely.

Why go by other people's assessment?

kektex 03-08-2008 11:00 AM

It´s a shitty movie IMO.
It´s just meant to gross out people, but to me it was like watching some freddy krueger movie or something.

CaptainHowdy 03-08-2008 11:05 AM

It's a cool movie, I liked "Hostel 2" a lot more...

i agree, the only reason why this trainwreck of a cheap ass b movie got so much hype is because the name tarantino is somehow connected to it.

Ive only seen hostel part 1 and its an extremely bad movie, i hear anyone say hostel 2 sucks more than 1, i didnt even know that was possible hehe

1) Yes I have seen it
2) sure it's worth the $3.00 to rent.
3) Yes it was super super gorey.

Now this is all personal opinion if you asked Rob Zombie he'd tell you something else.. *shrug*

I also don't know how seriously you take a movie like Hostel..

It's obviously not a "good" movie that will inspire you and change your life :P

CDSmith 03-08-2008 11:29 AM

As far as horror movies go I've definitely seen worse.

I still say it's worth watching at least once.

bobby666 03-08-2008 11:43 AM

i had to close my eyes several times

pornask 03-08-2008 11:50 AM

They had gore filmed and ready to go, but cut it all out, which is really sad. Extended edition has all those deleted scenes as well as the documentary of how it was filmed, which is more gory than the film itself.

CDSmith 03-08-2008 12:38 PM

Now this is a horror flick worth seeing...

some of you sound like you might prefer it to Hostel.

dev777 03-08-2008 01:13 PM

good movie, 2nd one sucked tho

2nd one shouldve never been made

kektex 03-08-2008 01:15 PM

The best horror movie I watched lately is "El Orfanato". I think it´s called The Orphanage in english.
It´s a spanish film. Look it up, it´s very good.

I dont think Hostel qualifies as horror.

tranza 03-08-2008 01:18 PM

I'll probably only watch this movie if there's nothing better on TV and I'm too lazy to do anything else.

If Tarantino didn't toss his name some where on this movie, no one would have even heard about it. Sadly, this movie was also referred to as "the Saw killer". Was that some sort of horrible joke or what? Everyone I know didn't enjoy this movie. Some were even left speechless. No, not in a good way. They couldn't believe a movie could be so bad. Here, lets look at some things.

Hostel

TOTAL LIFETIME GROSSES
Domestic: $47,326,473 58.7%
+ Foreign: $33,252,461 41.3%
= Worldwide: $80,578,934

Opening Weekend: $19,556,099
(2,195 theaters, $8,909 average)
% of Total Gross: 41.3%
Widest Release: 2,337 theaters
Close Date: February 16, 2006
In Release: 42 days / 6 weeks

Summary: I think some people got fooled by clever marketing.

Hostel 2

TOTAL LIFETIME GROSSES
Domestic: $17,609,452 49.4%
+ Foreign: $18,010,069 50.6%
= Worldwide: $35,619,521

Opening Weekend: $8,203,391
(2,350 theaters, $3,490 average)
% of Total Gross: 46.6%
Widest Release: 2,350 theaters
Close Date: July 5, 2007
In Release: 28 days / 4 weeks

Summary: No one got fooled this time.

Why wouldn't anyone want to see a sequel for Hostel even though the original did decent in theaters? Was it because a ton of people felt they got ripped off when they watched the original? I think so.

Now, I'm not picking at anyone. If you like this movie, good. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I, myself, could not find any joy/thrill in watching either of the Hostel movies.

Plain and simple. If you're curious about a movie, you should see it. You can't rely on others opinions about it. Everyone has varying opinions and tastes. By listening to them, you may be missing out on something. Just think, you could potentially enjoy this movie and kick yourself in the ass for waiting so long to watch it. Hell, you may even find the need to own it on DVD. Either way, the decision is your's. If you enjoy it, I'm glad. I'm just saying that I didn't enjoy it.

:2 cents:

Miguel T 03-08-2008 01:57 PM

I liked it.

Drake 03-08-2008 02:27 PM

It's not a slasher film nor is it a generic horror film that involves supernatural phenom (ex. the dead coming back to life to kill you). Knowing that, you'll probably enjoy it.

If the first is the better one....I can't imagine how bad is the second - We are talking about a brand new level of shitty movies :)
...because the first was the worst movie I ever saw in my life.

SomeCreep 03-08-2008 03:37 PM

My friends tell me it was good. I still haven't seen it.

GrouchyAdmin 03-08-2008 03:44 PM

Yes and if you're a Terry Funk fan you will love this movie. It's a slobber knocker! :1orglaugh

Brother Bilo 03-08-2008 05:39 PM

Horrible movie. I was completely disgusted with myself for sitting through that whole movie. I felt a kind of dirty that I couldn't shower long enough to feel clean.

dynastoned 03-08-2008 05:53 PM

i liked it. especially when he cuts the guys achilles tendons and he tries to get up and walk away. that was the best part.

if you're looking for great acting and a hot plot id look for something else.

fuzebox 03-08-2008 06:00 PM

I liked both Hostel 1 and Hostel 2.

Come on, what are you guys really looking for in a slasher movie? It was pretty unique, funny, and held my attention all the way through, plus had plenty of cringe-factor.

shrug.
