Had to ask: iPhone vs. Blackberry?

My Nokia let me know that it's on its last legs yesterday, and I've been eyeing both the Blackberry Curve 8320 and the iPhone. I'm curious to know from actual users what they would recommend. Your thoughts are appreciated!

I hear this all the time and I really don't get it.

I have used them both extensively, I would take the iPhone in a heartbeat. I use it extensively for business, including email, voicemail (iPhone is by far the best for that), text, opening docs, you name it....

Have 2 8320's loving so far. Have one for me and one for Dana. The wifi is awesome!. Keep in mind that there is no gps with the 8320, but the 8310 has gps, but no wifi. So best way to go is get 8320 and buy a 90.00 gps unit that goes on your keychain. :winkwink:

Gerco 03-07-2008 09:11 PM

Maybe you should all watch this... http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.ne...rnal=fj2l3s9dm

It's all about the new FULL intergration with exchange server, the new open SDK and other really fucking cool shit coming down the pipe RIGHT NOW for the iphone... This and the fact that 3G is expected in the next new model.... going to be a seriously killer phone.

geeknik 03-07-2008 09:15 PM

I have a PPC6800 and it blows away both the BlackBerry and the iPhone. :)

Elli 03-07-2008 09:30 PM

Great feedback in the thread so far, thanks everybody!

FYI, I'm in Vancouver, Canada on Rogers service, but I have a local guy who can get me an unlocked TMobile Curve, so that's what I would be getting.

Hmm not sure if you will be able to utilize the wifi voip feature using rogers. Might check into that. Right now since I mainly use the phone while home I dont use up any minutes since I jump onto wifi when making calls. Its handy. but requires having tmobile @home service setup I think.

I have an "OLD" bb7290, still love it for what it does, dont need all the other fancy shit:winkwink:

AmeliaG 03-07-2008 09:38 PM

I just got the Blackberry 8830 and I really LOVE it.

payd2purv 03-07-2008 09:43 PM

I'm running an iPhone and love it. But I have no business responsibilities associated with my phone.

Now that Microsoft Exchange will be coming to the iPhone I see it being a lot more compatible with business.

Most everyone uses blackberry and PIN communication tho.

The iPhone and the Blackberry are so different and have their own purposes and spots to fill.

Both are quality phones.

MVT 03-07-2008 10:54 PM

I have the curve and I love it! lots of applications out there and some great boards with lots of info, I'm with rogers and been very happy. Had the perl but love the full keyboard on the curve!

munki 03-07-2008 10:55 PM

I'm using the BB Pearl, and it handles everything I need it too...

To use UMA on the 8320, you need to have a TMobile account. There are special servers on the backend you need access too. At this time, only TMobile supports it.

Blackberry just markets to business customers. Also, they offer deals to major US companies, as opposed to the iPhone which doesn't. That's why BB is considered a better business phone.

Even without this, I would still say that the iPhone is better. But, push is coming.

Everyone seems to think that because the iPhone is has great form and personalized functions that it's only for fun. That's not true. I have been using a Mac for over 8 years now. I remember back in the day when everyone said the Mac was for fun and the PC was for business. Times have definitely changed.

The browser on the iPhone is amazing. The voicemail is incredible and so completely ahead of it's time.

BB is boring. I think it's much more difficult to use when it comes to text messages.

Remember also with Push, you need that activated from Microsoft. So unless you have a user lic, you can't even use it.

Cory W 03-08-2008 12:13 PM

And I would never use a Dash or a Q. I had a Q. Actually, I have used a few Windows mobile devices. If you do anything serious on your phone, Windows will crash. It hates push. Unless of course, you don't get any emails.

My iPhone is pulling down emails all day long, as well as getting text and it handles it better than any phone I have ever had.

I smashed my Q on the floor one day. The owner of our company hit his off a golf tee. Another guy with L3 threw his in a bucket of water. Any Windows mobile device is known for being terrible if you actually use the phone. Do some research on that. The people who enjoy them are usually just texting and talking, pulling down the occasional emails...I would most certainly get BB or Mac before Windows.

Windows made me suicidal.

The iPhone is the absolute most organized device I have ever had.

Elli 03-08-2008 12:14 PM

Wow, this thread is still on page 1!

Cory, do you mean if I buy an unlocked phone, I can't use the push email?

My understanding is that "push" is essentially a license deal with Microsoft. At Weg, we have a multi-user license for it. When I had the BB8800, I had it turned on for me. I loved it. But that was through our business account, I think it came with 5 licenses?

I am not sure how a single-license works. Maybe they offer it now? If AFF has a license for it, then you simply plug in the account info into your BB and you are golden. I could be wrong on this, but I do recall hearing a few people in the industry complaining about not being able to Push on their BB because they didn't want to pay for it.

The BB would have sucked without Push.

Right now, my iPhone is set to pull down every hour, or I can simply hit the email account and it pulls it down for me. My contacts are super organized. I do have to plug it into my laptop for contact and calendar changes to take effect, however, that really isn't a problem for me.

With Push, you never plug the phone in and that is nice. But I am always changing up my music folders or TV Shows anyways.

TMobile Dash

And one of my favorites ever and a must read, The Q.

Violetta 03-08-2008 01:08 PM

I not too familiar with any of them. The iphone is fun, but it cant send mms and has a 2 mp cam. :(
