ICQ and firefox?

Does anyone know how to make ICQ open links from messages in your default browser, firefox, and NOT IE? It is soooo annoying and I can't find any settings for this. Please share your thoughts

Doesn't seem to be a way to do that with ICQ 6... except maybe uninstalling IE (haven't tried that myself).

ICQ 6 = teh suckage.

Keep it steady at 5.10 or earlier, imho.

What version of ICQ are you using? I have seen others complain of this but I have yet to experience it, even when I used ICQ6 for a while.

Oh? your links opened in FF with ICQ 6?

Eva PSC 03-07-2008 03:04 PM

yeah, baddog, how did you do it?

ICQ 6 just seems to be jacked up all around... whole new history file dealio, so you can't easily import it from an earlier version, or from another box... then there's the way it handles authorization management, which I'm not a fan of... and the browser thing... Baddog's the first one I've heard of whose said he's been able to get it to open anything but IE via links in ICQ 6.

I ditched 6 after about 2-3 weeks of playing around with it.

here's a link from where you can grab older versions:

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=icq

5.1 works well for my needs.

I did not do anything. It just always worked. I don't think ICQ has ever opened MSIE since I made the change to FF.

hahah i was just reinstalling windows and spend a good half a day trying to find where the hell ICQ kept the history on my pc so i can copy it. No kidding!!!! Such a simple thing and I felt soooo stupid for taking so long to locate it.

just update icq 6 to the last version, don't install the toolbar (pay attention during instalkation) and it's opening links in the default browser... :)

Eva PSC 03-07-2008 03:19 PM

im pretty sure that's what i have now....

will try going through vista's default programs and make sure firefox is the default at all times

Ahh. maybe that's where I fucked up.

Good to know. I'll try uninstalling the toolbar and see if that corrects the dealio. Talk about feeling like an idiot. :)

i didn't have the tool bar installed
