Bad Economy = Good For Porn?

Do people stay home and spend more at home on the computer instead of going out and wasting more money on gas and such? What do you think?

Evil Chris 03-07-2008 01:19 PM

of course...

Horny Dude 03-07-2008 01:19 PM

Only thing is they're credit cards are maxed out from buying gas and food.

Klen 03-07-2008 01:20 PM

I doubt, beacuse bad economy affect all economy fields.

kane 03-07-2008 01:45 PM

Many experts say that the entertainment world (we are included in that) really are not effected by a poor economy and often actually thrive during recessions. People will still spend money and want entertainment. They are willing to spend $20-$30 for a couple of DVDs, a book or CD or a porn membership, they just don't new plasma screen TVs, cars and stuff like that.

Zuss 03-07-2008 02:14 PM

The reason is: Folks don't have money to spend on potential girlfriends, or their wifes decide to leave for the money of a rich man. So they're left alone with the interwebs and lots of good ol' pornography.

DaddyHalbucks 03-07-2008 02:25 PM

If you can't afford mortgages and real estate and diamonds and furs --and you are depressed about it--how about a $30 porn membership and some cheer?

:thumbsup

I read that cc companies could start lowering credit lines to protect themselves. That could hurt us.

You're right people want entertainment even in lower circumstances, just on a different level. Porn itself will always be loved by people and this is an advantage against technical stuffs or cars or anything people might get bored of.

Good points there. Never thought of that.

The Judge 03-07-2008 03:25 PM

that was true BEFORE the tubes/rapidshare era

tiger 03-07-2008 03:26 PM

People will buy food or pay the rent before they pay for porn. :) Good economy will always be better.

Fap 03-07-2008 03:46 PM

Economy doesnt effect porn, do your research :)

Exactly.

:2 cents:

Matt_WildCash 03-07-2008 04:26 PM

If your having a real bad day and life sucks, your job sucks and your underpaid, it sure does feel great to whack off to some super hot porn clip of your favorite niche.

Good economy will certainly be better than a bad one, but the Internet is not a luxury to most these days its another Utility that people NEED.

We'll see though, the Net porn industry hasn't gone through a real big recession yet.

i doubt online adult revenues would increase during a recession, but i think they wouldnt drop as fast as other industries.

Once again do your research it has no effect on the industry :thumbsup

brandonstills 03-07-2008 07:46 PM

Not sure. Would be interesting to see some REAL statistical data rather than just hunches.

In my experience bad economy doesn't change anything. In some ways it makes for more opportunities. You can hire people cheaper and be more selective. Less traffic when commuting. I never had a problem with down economies. I made most of my money in the market during the dot com crash and I was long on all my positions.

A very good point.

Spunky 03-07-2008 08:12 PM

A lot less disposable income

snaker 03-08-2008 12:13 AM

pron is a commodity!..id say so

Iron Fist 03-08-2008 12:36 AM

Porn is good for depression :)

Jensen 03-08-2008 12:59 AM

Anyone actually have some real sources on this? I see a lot of "do your research" when people say no, but no sources from their side.

Why would people buy porn if they less disposable income? Porn and entertainment would be the first thing I stopped buying if I had less cash. There are stuff you need to have like food and gas, but porn nah. It would have to wait..

right, that's why countries where people get $300 per month buy porn like crazy

its quite simple - better economy -> higher purchasing power (in most cases) -> the more people will spend on non-essentials like porn

Bad economy is never good for any industry. I know a couple of people that have already dropped their internet connection because they are now unemployed.

helic0pter 03-08-2008 03:24 AM

During the Great Depression in the United States movie sales went up because people wanted entertainment to get out of their depressive lives.

Based on that it could be a good time for porn. There are so many other factors though that you never know.

Eman - PG 03-08-2008 06:33 AM

With prices and inflation going up, home equity plumetting and the stock market in the crapper, people have less money to spend on disretionary items. Porn is one of those discretionary items.

nikki99 03-08-2008 09:47 AM

good news then :)

payd2purv 03-08-2008 10:04 AM

The real question is with all of the media hype about how bad the economy is doing.

Is the average surfer really feeling the crunch?

And you should really not be focusing on ONLY the US market. Lots of surfers outside of the USA.

Maybe redtube will start putting up banners for credit cards in order to help? :1orglaugh

Declines and Refunds/chargebacks seem to be a up a bit in the last 90 days.

tony286 03-08-2008 10:25 AM

I think people that say porn is recession proof are basing it on the old bricks and mortar porn model. Back then it was mostly a cash business which is very different.First off you didnt have any free sources of porn unless you had some old porn hanging out in the house. When credit card companies start upping min payments and lowering open credit to protect themselves that will hit us.
Also we have the double whammy not only the economy sucks but gas is going thru the roof. The last big recession in the eighties gas wasnt going thru the roof. If its a choice of filling the car with gas to go to work or buying porn. Porn will lose.

Mistah Charlie 03-08-2008 10:27 AM

Yes, it is much cheaper to buy online.
