I'm not liking how Goog is acting lately

SERP spot changing several times a day is driving me bonkers

baddog 03-05-2008 09:34 PM

I bet if it was improving your ranking daily you would not feel that way.

SpeedWacker 03-05-2008 09:38 PM

Uh, realize that Google is not really a Search Engine, but really a Global Advertising Network, and you'll hate them even more...

It will probably end up towards the #7, after it gets settled in. Ride the waves man!

Have you ever defragged your hard drive? Same thing. You have to move stuff around.

Lace 03-05-2008 09:51 PM

that would be good. i have another site that has been bouncing a lot everyday too. this one is a little more aged but still bounces between #2 - #6 so i don't know if the trend is isolated to this one site

i got guesses as to whats going on though...

Actually, when I had my first IBM compatible with its 2 MB of RAM, yeah, it used to take all day.

Bangin 03-05-2008 11:40 PM

Try going from #1 to #6 then stay their for 1/2 a day. Then back to #1 and stay there for a week then back to #6 then #3 then #2 then #1 for a week than #8 for week and so on... At the end its all worth the #1's

Thats a terrible fucking analogy. Defrag takes fragmented files and moves them to complete the files. The Search Engine is re-calculating its algorithms and ranking positions based on relevance not moving files the fuck around. You're trying to compare apples to oranges!

It's stable for my older sites but for my newer blogs it's a little bit like playing whack a mole :)

Back in the old days when 125 MB was a big drive it was a matter of moving things around so you could put the files together.

If you ever sat and watched a defrag in process you would not think the analogy was that far off.

You're thinking of it as a "Server" point of view instead of "Marketing" point of view. The algorithm is based on keyword relevancy and quality scores not where the files are be moved around to. So once again, get your fucking analogy right. It's more like "fishing" than "deframenting."

If you don't understand this concept than you probably need to first realize that Google really isn't a "Search Engine" in the true sense anymore, but is now more of "Global Advertising Network."
