putting a warning on adult sites

I posted this on another forum, but i think its worth posting on gfyh.com
-------- putting a warning on adult sites I have not seen sites do this. What I am on about is not, warning, you must be 18 and older........ But rather somthing like: Warning: do not post/distribute any content from this site without consent. Membership only etitles you to view and save the content to your pc for your own use. Copying content is an act of theft and we will prosecute........ You get this sort of message at the start of films, so why not on a website. I say this as mabe, it wopuld put people off from joining and uploading your content. I do think many people belive if they join a site they then own the content. So mabe a small warning would help reduce this problem. while it will not stop pirating, it would put some off. as i say many belive if they join a site then they have the right to do what they want with the content and sell on there password for the site. so by put on the outside and in the members area, somthing on the lines of 'we have the ability to detect content and username abuse, and we will act on it....'. It could put many off. put it this way they know you have there addresses. this is different to going into hmv and bying a dvd and making copies in that they know they can get away with it, but they know on the net they can be traced. after all you can now face very prosecution in the usa and also in the uk. put it this way, if it reduces content abuse by 10%, is it not worth it? It makes no odds realy. Its just the threat will put many off. A few years ago I was chatting to my unkles girlfriends doughter, who was 14 at the time. she had copied loads of music from some site. I told her that there could be a chance of somone knocking at the door and giving her a bill for what she was doing. I said probably arounds £100k, and at least her mum owned the house as that would cover the cost of the bill. Her mum removed the pc from her room that second. But she presumed it was legall to do so. And thats the point, many presume its ok to repost content. go on an adult forum, and somone will say they like model xxxx, and somone will say, yes i am a fan, and a member of that site, and these are the pics. You often find a tom of the site posted. well if they thought they could have the police give them a visit, then they are less liky to do it. after all, 99.999% of us do not speed, simply as we do not want to get charged for speeding. we know on the motorway and many roads do not have speed cameras and we could get away with it, but its just that chance. ok, some risk it. But if we all knew we could get away with it, then we would all speed. its the threat, rather than what could happen. if it puts one person off, its worth doing. i would not want to put people off from joining up, just simply put them off abusing there membership. i find that when somone membership has around 5 days to go, somtimes one ot two members out of say 30 will pass/sell/swap there membership username and password. i know this as i use a password protection system, and it auto blocks missuse. now if these members know they should not, would they risk it if they know you have there home address. |

That's a good idea and worth trying, but I would suggest putting it on a full page right AFTER they joined your site.
that way the instant the transaction is done they get sent to a WHITE page with very readable text stating what you said. At the bottom of the page would be the link to the members section. This way you don't scare them into not buying a membership. Some people may get worried about what you are tracking and will be more worried about joining and handing over their personal info. |

 that's just my opinion.

Uhh, isn't that what Terms Of Service docs are for?

also, most surfers so not read the warning page anyway so it would be kind of pointless. So if you do it the way I mention above it would get seen by more people and read by many of them.
Especially if you have ATTENTION!! READ BEFORE CONTINUING! in RED... That will get people's attention. |

how many surfers do you think actually read the TOS? I'll be that MAYBE 0.00001% do. |

Coming from a main stream movie background, I think we should have a standard warning page and copyright notice that we all use. |

I think a first page for a warning page is a courtesy thing to do. But if it was a type of law I'm sure people would have to redirect all new visitors to a warning page because Google could send visitors to the 2nd, or 10th page.

ya, they should, but when it comes to porn they just want to get off so reading the TOS is not high on the list of priorities, unfortunately. :) |
