any plumbers in the house?

my pipes sometimes make a loud humming sound when i turn on the water or flush the toilet,,

Could be air in the pipes. At an old place i lived in, if you flushed the toilet and the cover thing took too long to close in the tank, air would get in the pipes and it sounded like house was gonna blow up. LOL

probably water hammer. Is it a newer building with copper plumbing? If so you can get hammer arrestors installed that will help alot... sometimes the pipes may not be secured properly, too and you or the plumber will have to do a process of elimination run. and yes, I was a plumber in my past life. :)

LOL,, do you think they built my home on top of a graveyard?

If you wanna learn how to solder and crawl around in your attic/crawlspace, then you can fix it for $100-$200 in parts... a Plumber here in L.A. would charge around $75 an hour plus parts... 4-8 hours depending on accessablility to the plumbing.

A hammer arrestor basically gets put at the highest point of the copper lines, pointing vertical... more of a pain in the butt than anything, about 30 minutes per arrestor to install...

if those don't fix it right away, you'll want to hunt down any loose or unsecured pipes, this is what can take the longest...

soldering copper pipe is only vaguely similar to soldering wires or circuits, so don't just go gungho heating it up... hmmm just call a plumber... it'll cost you but at least it will be done properly.

thanks alot turbo,, you help me out on this one
now i got the general info,, but more importantly
this can't get worse like blown pipes anytime soon?

it just pisses me off how i got this problem and my house is only 3 years old,,

i got one of the cookie cutter homes and all the workers don't know how to speak english

damn shame how they build homes these days

no, this is just an annoyance... shouldn't be any danger of burst pipes.
