Any Ebay sellers here?

So I just talked to a manufacturer and I mentioned wanting to sell their products on Ebay, and the guy reacted like I was some sort of terrorist.

He said "We only sell to distributors that sell to professional retailers". LOL

Sounds to me like this guy thinks he's all high and mighty being so in demand. So I guess my next step is to go to one of those retailers and try to negotiate with them instead.

Is this a pretty standard routine?

I forgot, everyone on this forum is allergic to biz threads. Cough Cough.

I've never gone to a mfg. and informed them I was going to be an EBAY distributor in the past. I've gotten distribution rights for products and met certain requirements to gain those rights...from that point, if I choose to distribute on EBAY, I can I if so choose. I'm not sure what industry you're talking about but I'm pretty sure each manufacturer has specific requirements for you to meet before handing you distribution rights. After you proove to them you are capable of distribution, I really don't see why they would have an issue with you selling/distributing on EBAY?

I'm going after the personal care market. So you think that wasn't the best approach? Maybe I need to have someone else call them back and say we're looking to distribute to professional businesses. LOL

I mean, I guess we'll need to tell them what they want to hear. But where the conversation will go, is beyond me.
