Gary Gygax Dead
OH my god it is truly a day of sadness for many geeks like me:(
http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/03/04/o....ap/index.html The god father and creator of RPG's Dungeons And Dragons. |
Start here. --> "The Keep on the Borderlands"
|
The Tomb Of Horrors
|
So I am not the only geek :)
Personal favorite was Giants / Drow / Demonweb - played through that on the Batallion HQ conference room table with a group of 15 (DM was the Commanders Aide) |

Sad day in the land of geekdom

Goddamn!
RIP Dungeon Master. :(:(:( |
One of my earliest memories in life is waking up in the middle of the night at about 4 years old and spying down the stairs to see my parents and their friends in the middle of an all night D&D session. Which of course, might explain a bit about my life.

I've been playing every Friday night with a group for the last 4 years. The group is made up of about a dozen 30-40 year olds and it's a good end of the week break. Drink lots of soda, eat chips and junkfood, talk about geek shit.
Nice break from the porn world that I deal with all week. |

Very sad day, met Gary before a few times along with Dave Arneson and then several others who had worked at TSR.
To really expose my inner geek, and since someone started the modules remembering... The following I can recall DM'ing at assorted conventions. No particular order: Against the giants Curse of Xanathon Horror on the hill Isle of dread Vault of the drow The throne of bloodstone Ravenloft 1 and 2 Queen of the demonweb pits. Yes I have it all back to the chainmail book. Even original boxed set with the original dice and crayon minus the d-10 as it did not exist yet. Have all books and covers up to mid 2nd ed with release of binders for monster manuals. Was very sad when it was all sold to Wizards of the Coast, and even more sad when they were bought by Hasbro. Yet I guess ownership by Hasbro is better than the wicked bitch who had it before, who banned its play (and thus testing) at TSR. Never mind I regress. Though today is worse than in 85 when he sold off TSR due to court issues. Sad that him and Dave also fought, hope the mended that fence long ago never found out though. |

Oh well thanks for Pool of Radience and Dark Sun dude. |
But my 20th level cleric can cast resurrection, right?

I spent many hours reading and playing the original version of D&D and AD&D back when I was a teenager. Gary also designed a historical board wargame called Alexander (featuring the epic battle of Gaugamela) for his company Guidon Games (later bought by Avalon Hill Games) that I also still play online via an online helper program called Vassal. RIP Gary!
