The most exciting fight of the night...

I'm not an expert on MMA but is Anderson Silva not the most versatile fighter, maybe ever? I've only watched UFC for over a year or so but I've never seen somebody utilize all the tools - kicking, punching, kneeing, elbowing - nearly as effectively as him.

Henderson is slightly stronger than Silva, a better wrestler, and harder puncher and he gave Silva more of a run than all of Silva's previous UFC opponents, yet it wasn't enough.

It seems to me Silva has the perfect combination of skills: he's long and lean so he has incredible reach, deceptively strong, exceptionally quick and accurate, and is unpredictable (most fighters compared to him almost seem one-dimensional in their skills), very slinky so he can weasel out of tight grips, and just a very smart fighter. I think he could beat rampage even though they're in a different weight class. Silva uses his knees and legs all the time and he makes contact regularily. One knee to the face or leg to the face/body is the equivalent of 2 or more hard direct punches.

Among other things, he knocks a guy out using an upper-cut elbow in this vid. I've never seen that before:

For those in the know, is Pride still considered to have been the better of the two - UFC vs Pride - when they were separate organizations? It seems that every title holder in Pride ended up getting beat down when they competed in the UFC. Maybe the ring and aesthetics made Pride seem like they were better fighters (no cage to support you so you can get grounded and pounded on the ropes in Pride etc.)

Entirely different rules between Pride and UFC, I personally preferred the rules Pride had in place, and actually liked seeing the fighting in a ring as opposed to the cage. I think Pride's fight rules made for a more exciting fight. While arguing which organization had better fighters is kind of pointless as so many fighters have gone back and forth between the two, I will gladly argue with anyone that Pride was a better show. I think a lot of long time Pride fighters may take a while to adjust to fighting under different rules in a different environment.

Looks like dan henderson gave away the choke....

Another thing, Silva never seems to get tired. He has tremendous rare endurance. I don't think he's ever had to go beyond the 2nd round in UFC but even in pre-UFC fights that have gone the distance he's just as sharp round after round.

Maybe it's the training in Brazil (or when your name is Silva). These fights are identical:

Wanderlei Silva vs Rampage (2003)
https://youtube.com/watch?v=LazyoSzuGWU

Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin (2006)
http://www.vsocial.com/video/?d=50769

Formula: Armbar followed by onslaught of knees to the face and body + leg kicks to the face.
