Hey Mac Guys - I need Video Trailer Advice

I have some full length HDV quicktime files...
768x432 @1.5mbit

I want to cut them up to make trailers with them.

1) What software should i use?
2) What file type should i save as?
3) How do i convert the files to flash video for the final trailers to be embedded?

Thanks! :pimp

1. Final Cut Express is very good for the price, $200. But if you're really short on cash, upgrade your QT to QT Pro, $30.

2. Flash, right?

3. Visual Hub is excellent for transcoding. It's only $30 too. It'll take care of your FLV requirement.

rofl, hellz no. Not when working with Qt files... nothing but a pain in the ass.

As for software... if you have the budget, Final Cut Pro. If you don't, QT professional edition...

File format? if using FCP, just the native export will do just fine.

As for encoding for Flash, welllll... that you'll have to research a bit on your own, everyone has their little special "baking" recipe for Flash ;)

On2 Flix Pro for the Flash files. Just upgrade to QT Pro and you can cut the videos.

if you have leopard then imovie will work fine... I use final cut myself.. love it

Okay.. so FCP (light or pro)

do my edits.. then save as quicktime file trailer?

then into flix pro or visual hub.

sounds easy enough.

anyone have a quick editing tutorial link for FCP? Something i can learn in a few hours.

how easy is it to overlay garage band songs into the FCP timeline? i'd like to put some music over the trailers.

can i do the edits in imovie instead of fcp??

You just add it to the timeline, pretty much all iLife and Apple programs work together seamlessly. Or you can use Soundtrack, which comes with FCP and get more exact with the music.

First thing I would try to do is get the source tapes with the full hdv resolution if they are available. You are starting by editing compressed files.

i don't have the sources :( damn.
