maybe a few hundred backlinks would help speed things along...?

I had the exact same thing happen at exactly the same time. I was number 1 for my keyword and then on the 28th I dropped to page 14. Fuck.

Well, it normally happens exactly when adding hundreds of backlinks in a very short time :winkwink:

I've noticed G. does that more and more just when it's "re-evaluating"... could be a new methodology they're using for some reason; "drop to bare minimum while checking validity and doing SE-spammer checks"?

Gave me a fright, I checked one of my sites and G is still sending me 5,000 uniques a day :thumbsup

it's just part of Google cycling sites in the SERPs. wait a few months and it will be your turn again.
