Holy shit, fucker did a touch and go! Nice save!
be interesting to see where the plane ended up. He had no choice but to abort the landing but scraping the wing down the runway like that had to fuck it up.
Fuck, that was so scarry, and my hats of to the pilot. Keeping the cool like that, and managing to at least try to bring it down....
Tho, should have no tried to land at all. |

holy shit, wow, haha
Nice shot. Wow!
Did the wing actually touch the ground or is it just so close it's throwing up the water spray?
That was fucking nutty...
if i was on that plane, there would be a big pile of shit in my seat
Fuck that would be scary.

now I know where not to fly

Also, it's visible how the computers were trying to re-adjust the plane to the winds. Amazing vid. |
On the news this morning they said the plane landed safely on the second attempt.
You know that there was not one unsoiled pair of underwear on that plane.
:2 cents: |
Something similar happened to me once landing in fog on the East coast.
You couldn't see a thing until 10' off the deck. I look out the window and we're at about a 30 degree angle to the runway. I thought for sure we were going to wipe out on the grass. The pilot literally bounced the plane off the runway and hit it full throttle. We circled around and landed fine. I'm surprised this guy tried so long before saying fuck it and hitting the throttle. |
Slipping a plane like that is a bitch. and then right when he was about to touch down, the wind gusted. Man

Murdoch picked up on it http://video.news.sky.com/skynews/vi...ing_030308.flv

They reported here that the pilot is getting some kind of reward, as he should. Pure mastery at driving a plane that size like that.
I would crap my pants
The pilot may have done a good job getting it back into the air (I believe TOGA is Throttles Open Go Around or something like that) but it's no use calling him a hero when he probably SHOULDN'T HAVE TRIED TO LAND THERE in the first place!
CNN reported that wing did scrape, he went around again and landed safely. They said the cross-winds were gusting above 110 (not sure if that was MPH or KPH).
I would have to assume he was low fuel or that was the best weather airport in range. No way a pilot would *voluntarily* try that landing in those conditions. |
there she blowwss
i would like to mention that the second pilot was a 24 year old chick ;)

I've seen some people say it may have been low on fuel which kinda limits their choices. :Oh crap |

They know is it safe to land or not better then the pilot and what kind of weather they have on the strips. He was given a green light from the tower 100%. 0% pilot responsibility on this one. |
whoa intense
When people ask why pilots get paid so much, it's for times like that.
Those pilots must have nerves of steel
Little wing scrape never hurt anybody......
tower says clear for landing, computers handle the landing with that aircraft.
it appears that the pilot bailed the computer out on that one when the wind shifted at the last moment there. |
