Ever go to the horse track?

We're off to the horse races for the afternoon... got the private booth reserved for a few hours of eating, drinking and betting... it's only my 3rd time going, so any advice on how to play the horses?

Here it is: www.turfparadise.com

I used to ,until I lost too many times

Scott McD 03-01-2008 11:37 AM

I went last year.

We were sticking to a certain amount to bet for each race, then got greedy at the last race, and stuck the lot on.

Baaaaad idea... :disgust

I've gone to the quarter horses and the harness races, but the only thing close to me now are the dogs.

Tip #1: Try to make an additional bet on any horse that takes a dump right before post time!

i am there now yo

I love going every year to Del Mar Race Track in the summer. So much fun to hang out and bet. Don't take advice from me tho, I always pick the horse that brings up the rear.

Never bet on anything that shits.

Went to harness racing when I was a kid. Not really my thing.

I've been hitting up Turfway quite a bit, waiting on the season to start here at River Downs. L-Pink and I plan on meeting up for some Keeneland action once that starts up.

The best beginner advice I can give without going into any details as far as the nitty-gritty details of horse racing---- never bet to show lol. Always win/place.

Only when they have beer festivals, too. :-)

Bet with your head, not over it. Horses can be evil, I've lost some serious chunks on them...:(

Martin 03-01-2008 02:08 PM

Always bet the horse that has odds of 4-1.

Just take some money you can afford to lose and assume you are going to throw it away. Drink and enjoy the pretty girls :2 cents:

I lost too many times

I go often to hollywood park, del mar..grew up near turf paradise.

if you're not used to betting the ponies, stick to win, place or show bets. all the others are harder to pull off..if you can't pick one winner why try to get 2 or 3?

have fun, and good luck!

looks a lot nicer than Santa Anita:Oh crap

How was it? I've never been to Turf Paradise, but there's a really cool old track up in Prescott that I've been to a couple times.

I don't really have a strategy...just kinda glance over their past record and usually pick the one that catches my eye.

WiredGuy 03-01-2008 10:35 PM

Never been, sounds like fun though.

I grew up raising harness racing horses, probably have had 8 in my lifetime. Don't think I have even been to a race since I was 15. My mother used to let me bet a total of 10 dollars through the night, usually bet it all on one of our horses. More likely than not I would leave with 30 bucks at the end of the night.

WWC 03-02-2008 12:19 AM

All the time..... Santa Anita Park!

d-null 03-02-2008 12:54 AM

I heard that someone won $600,000 at Santa Anita today for a $2 bet, but you had to pick 6 race winners correct in a row!

Rinaldo 03-02-2008 01:04 AM

Best Poker room, Everyone's distracted watching their 30 track bets and I'm raking in their chips.
I love the track.
