Flying to Thailand

What is the best airlines?

faxxaff 03-01-2008 12:01 AM

If you fly from lax I would say Thai Air and Air Singapore. Maybe you can get one of the 8 unofficial First Class seats when you fly on Thai. Their Airbus A340/500 features all the newest gimmicks including LED cabin lights, etc. A real nice treat on such a long flight.

Yeah, that sounds like the way to go . . . how do you get one of the 8 seats? Do I have to kill anyone?

I was contemplating going there after the Webmaster Access in Amsterdam, dropping down to Germany to visit some friends then heading over to Thailand.

If you go to Europe first and then to Thailand, get a RTW ticket and continue from BKK back to the US. This way you travel around the world in one direction and don't need to fly back and forth. Star Alliance Business Class rtw's start at around 7500 US$. Done it a few times and find it much better than round trip tickets.

Yeah, that is part of what I am trying to figure out. I am thinking of driving to Indiana so I can leave my dog with goodgirl, then leaving from there. Would save me 4 1/2 hours of flight time too.

I commute Thailand/Vegas so have tried or looked at most. I go through LA and not sure if that suits you. I use EVA as 2 flights a day, good planes and service. Cathay is good but some planes a little frayed. I dont use Thai as service frequency isnt same and hard to change flights.

EVA business is good, well priced and I have been using them 2 years now with few problems.

how much does a lax-bkk-lax business class on EVA cost ?

if it fits into your time and budget plan, fly first or biz on singaporeair and you'll never want to leave the plane.. i made a pact with myself, a rule in my permanent memory: Always fly SIA, regardless if the flight is longer etc...

That's the nice thing about Star Alliance RTW fares. You can fly any of their carriers including SIA. This is a great discount on their rates! Additionally, they upgrade you to First Class on domestic US flights if you are on a BIZ ticket.

BD... DWB flies around the world when he goes. He managed to get some crazy deal where if he flies all one direction, it's cheap. He goes from LAX to Europe (Germany I think) then to Dubai, then to Thailand, then to Japan, and then back here.

He did it once in 88 days. (no joke) He literally traveled around the world in 88 days. But it was just a coincidence that it worked out that way. I think on that trip he hit South America as well.. but the point is, you can get a special ticket that will take you around the world and as long as you keep going East you can get a good deal.

Coincidence? Are you thinking of Around the World in 80 Days, or was there a remake that took a week longer?

heh, yeah I guess it doesn't sound as cool now, but I think it took him 88 days and we both thought that was cool not knowing there was nothing cool about it. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I, too, Fly EVA Air Business class as I commute from LA to Bangkok all the time. They are now flying their new 777 fleet on this route with a 2 hour layover in Taipei in a very nice business class lounge. Great service, and a comfortable flight. Always. I used to fly Thai but found the service to be hit or miss. Some flights okay, some good, and even a few where, even in business class, the service was just questionable at best.

heard its a fun time, enjoy :)

Fly JAL, it's cool with the hot Japanese girls change their uniforms in mid flight.

You can't beat Singapore airlines at all. http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/SQ.htm

Best airline, imo
