GODADDY & domain privacy guard
So they give me this shit for free anytime I register 6+ domains at once but they will not do it when I want to renew 6+ domains at once. I read privacy is always free at namecheap.com. Is that true? Is there any reason I should not switch?
|
Dood, the only reason not to switch from Namecheap to Godaddy is if you are sadistic.
Yep whois privacy is free with each reg and its damn useful. |
why do you have a deer asshole as your sig? i wouldn't give you free privacy either

I think that the free whois on Namecheap is on new registrations/transfers only, and that you have to pay for it on renewals. Can't remember the exact price, but it is dirt cheap. Hit me up on icq if you decide to switch, and I'll give you a link I follow for Namecheap coupon codes. |

Not on renewals, ewww thats the same as godaddy then. But you think its less than $6 like godaddy wants when its time to renew? |
I went and looked it up, this is Namecheap's deal on whois for renewals:
WhoisGuard 5 Pack @ $7.88/yr Protects Up to Five Domains As Low as $1.57/yr per Subscription Buy More! Save More! Thus far, I haven't had any issues with them, and the transfers went through smoothly. |

When I transfer can I re-up for 5 years at that point? So privacy is totally free at that point?
|
damn, wish i would have read this thread 30 minutes ago, just had a long ass conversation with godaddy about this fucking topic!
|
I sell domains a lot easier when its godaddy to godaddy transfers. I stay with godaddy for that reason alone, at least for domains I think I might want to sell in the future or could have the possibility of selling.

On a somewhat related note, instead of doing a proxy service. I had the idea of starting a holding company for $12 renting a P.O. Box : $20 and getting a Skype Number:$84 and putting that new company as the holder of the domains.
Total cost: $116 per year for unlimited domains. Anyone see a flaw in this reasoning. |

I'm not positive, but I think the first year would be free on your whois guard, and then not free after that. " For a limited time, any new registrations and transfers to us automatically receive a FREE WhoisGuard subscription to use on any domain registered with us. This is a $2.88 value, absolutely free!" The way I read that, $2.88 is their full price for a year's worth of whois. Never hurts to ask though, that is for sure. I had to email them a question, and the response time was decent. Can't remember specifically, but it was within 24 hours. |
