Just on a sidenote, the implementation of permalinks such as "...%postname%..." isn't very kind to the database. Expect performance issues with high traffic and large post counts.

For Wordpress this is very important!

Code:

/%category%/%postname%/
and ofcourse good content

Nice post, and I made some changes.

pornguy 02-28-2008 07:12 AM

I need to make that change to my permalink structure. Will that make me drop the pages already indexed, or will google see it as a good thing, and just continue on?

Nice article. A lot of great optimization topics covered in 1 article here. It's a lot more than just %postname%, and more than just basic SEO.

Yeah, the article is pretty useful for newbies. I recommend everyone to read it, it can't hurt recalling some things ;)

A word to the wise, if Google has already spidered your content your going to want to make sure you write an .htaccess file that 301's any old page location to the new locations.

The biggest thing with optimizing wordpress is cutting down on duplicate content. Wordpress loves to repeat content in archives, categories and tags. Pick a spot and stick with it, then redirect all other locations :)
