I don't think i've ever seen a picture or movie gallery with a flash banner - its always .jpg/.gif.
How come? Is it against any TGP/MGP rules? I really don't care if a small % of users don't have flash installed - for a well designed interactive/visual flash banner would produce much higher click thru ratios to negate any loss. |
I like it's against a lot of tgp/mgp rules. You can make a really sleek flash banner, i've made some myself that look awesome. like full video that expands and retracts to standard banner sizes. but, meh, a lot of tgp sites don't like em.

As long as its not distracting, there shouldnt be a problem.
Expanding and retracting flash would probably piss people off, but a typical flash banner shouldn't be a problem. I'm just tired of converting flash or after affect files into low quality / high file size / low fps animated gifs that look like crap... When i can retain quality at 1/5 the file size by using flash. |
Yeah i see where you're coming from with the frustration. However the new CS3 versions of photoshop/illustrator make it a heck of a lot easier making animated .gif files. Naturally you're not going to get anything as good as flash for those but for basic banners and what have you they work pretty well and are pretty easy to use.

I guess not everyone has flash player... Divx is a lot better than .mpeg videos too, but site owners want stuff to be simple for the un-techsavy surfers so it's generally not allowed.

Adobe® Flash® Player is the world's most pervasive software platform, used by over 2 million professionals and reaching over 98% of Internet-enabled desktops in mature markets as well as a wide range of devices.

I as user seldom click on flash banners because can not use "open in new window", so I would have to leave the site.

Also the flash publisher can choose to have it open in the same window or in a new window - just like .html - "_self" or "_blank". |
The thing that shits me most with flash based stuff is that you click on a "link" inside the flash part, then click on back without realising. Oops, suddenly you're out of the flash and at the page just before that. Flash breaks basic browser navigation functionality.

But if you have basic .html website with a simple flash .swf banner that links to another .html website, the back button works just fine in all browsers... |

i am still hating flash.........

flash is good for design & looks, it ain't for navigation and functionality. At least not for now.

Open Link in New Tab - Ctrl+Enter Open Link in New Window - Shift+Enter (I just tested it in Firefox and it didnt work on flash links) Shift seems to work on everything within IE. |
