BEER! What brand do you recommend?

I'm 47 years old and have only drank four brands of beer in my life: Bud Lite, Miller Lite, Mich Ultra and Corona Lite. Not only that, but it seems like all my friends drink those brands too. I want to expand my horizons so please suggest another brand I should try. Here are some general guidelines:

1. It should be available in most grocery stores, so no exotic beers that you have to go searching for or special order.

2. It should be in the same general price range of the brands I already mentioned.

If you have a brand you think I MUST try that doesn't meet those two criteria, go ahead and suggest it. I might not try it but others may find the suggestion useful.

Here's one more thing: I've never fallen in love with the taste of beer. I just like to drink it if I'm out with friends, have some pretzels or want to get a cheap buzz. So if you can recommend a beer that actually tastes really good (smooth, no after taste) I'll be your friend for life. Heck, I may even buy you a beer someday!

Cheers!

One of the nicest beers I've had is a 1664 - french, but surprisingly, on tap in a lot of other places.

Alternatively, if you want beers that don't taste like watered down urine with bubbles, try some micro-brewery beers - the whole range, blonde, blanche, amber, brown etc - they are generally a hell of a lot tastier - and represent as beverages in their own right :)

:helpme you are a poor poor man. you have no idea what you have missed. i would not even consider that stuff you mentioned "beer" - it is yellow water with a light pee aroma.

too bad i can't send you something from over here - the country with the highest beer consumption per person worldwide. if you would taste it you'd know why :drinkup :glugglug

Simply "The King of Beers" Budweiser

xroach 02-26-2008 06:40 PM

If it doesn't conform to the Bavarian purity laws, it's not beer.

arial 02-26-2008 06:56 PM

A good micro brew Heffeweisen like the one sold at the Roadhouse bar and grill is my favorite American beer Or a nice Grolsh or Fishers if you have them in your area. Also a Tiger Beer from Thailand or Dortmunder and Kingfisher beer from India. These will keep you occupied for some time :thumbsup:thumbsup

oh man . . . . :Oh crap

shannmarie 02-26-2008 07:19 PM

I'd say GUINESS all the way, or a Stout beer of your choice - and you can find them at your local grocer. I love Guiness, and a lot of people seem to hate it because "it's thick" -- yeah, I can see why it reminds people of coffee -- but if you're not particularly fond of the taste of beer, try the real dark ones. It's a different taste all in its own.

MandyBlake 02-26-2008 07:21 PM

try some moosehead. its good stuff.

Gunni 02-26-2008 07:23 PM

becks, carlsberg, both good and should be easy to find. But I reckomend you go to a specialist shop and get them to reckomend a few good ones to try out

dready 02-26-2008 09:45 PM

I'm the type to order something new everywhere I go, especially if there is something local I've never had before. I'd suggest buying a bunch of six packs and trying them all. ;)

chadknowslaw 02-26-2008 10:34 PM
