Photo retouching [pics]
 

Lately I've been making some spare time for a sideline project - retouching old photos of ancestors for a geneology project my father's been working on recently.

In an industry that's renowned for its 'disposable content' - its a nice change to work on photos that have stood up to the passing of time.

My great, great, great grandmother (circa 1871 - she was 18 at the time of the photo).

I find it cool to look at 100 year old pictures and you look at the people's faces and they look just like they could be some young person you might meet today, yet they are in a different era, clothes, setting, and think of the way their lives were so different than ours, yet probably in many ways the same as ours too

I quite agree. I like looking at a person's face and try to imagine what was going through their mind at the time the pic was taken. Back in 1871, having your portrait done would have been a very special occasion by comparison to today's standards.

My great, great, great grandmother (above) was an Empire Loyalist who immigrated to Canada to remain loyal to the British Crown at the time. The family settled around the north shore of Lake Erie, Ontario where they established much of the farming and agriculture in the area. The original house built by my great, great, great grandfather is still standing today - my father was the last one in the family to have been born in the house.

Anyways...

I know this is the wrong place to post as this is your grama...... But have you ever looked into vintage porn pics? I have a few prints taken from pics in the early 1900's all stockings related but amazing none the less..... To think that civilization was at that point back then makes you wonder why its so hard right now eh??

Naw, never had much interest in vintage porn pics, although I have an old VHS copy of 'Opa's Porn Kiste' (a compilation of vintage porn movie segments from the early 1900s) in the archives somewhere.

Actually, when you really think about it, even though porn (both stills and movies) existed even back in the early 1900s, it was truly underground at the time and considered extremely taboo. So even though our industry dwells in an ever-increasing climate of puritanical backlash these days, its still made considerable progress relevant to its earliest origins.

1871 - but yeah, its great having these old pics still around. We've been receiving a slew of 'em from a distant relative we've been corresponding with online - pics we never knew existed.
