Geolocation of a web user?

All,

I'm working on a script that needs to Geolocate the user. I'm looking for the cheapest database that will give me either longitude/latitude or city, state, country. Also, I'd prefer an API, so that I don't have maintain/update a database.

Anyone done this recently and have any good tips for me?

Use MaxMind.
They have free country and city db per IP.
Also paid ones with much more info.
