Where are the Oscars for the common man?

why don't they make a movie awards for the average movie goer not the precious few who see these high brow movies. I don't know anybody who saw more than 2 of the Oscar best film nominated films and I know a lot of people who saw none of them.

More Will Ferrell less Daniel Day Lewis!

GrouchyAdmin 02-24-2008 09:51 PM

I dunno about dem dere moofies but I saw a cow with dirreah the other day. Wooo-weee it wuz a mess lemme tell ya.

Sly 02-24-2008 09:53 PM

The world would be better off with less Will Ferrell.

I can only take so many movies where a 40-year-old is acting like a 12 year old.

Fap 02-24-2008 09:53 PM

HOW ABOUT...

Knocked Up
Superbad
American Gangster
!!!

Thank you. You've single-handedly made me detest the human race just a little less.

Porn Farmer 02-24-2008 09:56 PM

The common man is an idiot. That's why the common man is working 9-5 as a slave to someone else. The common man makes my subs and delivers my mail.

No Country for Old Men is a brilliant movie which deserved its best picture win.

If by 'high brow' you mean it requires some thought, then yes, it does.

Maybe there should be an awards ceremony for morons where Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler films are nominated.

I can see the categories now:

Best Fart Joke
Best Inane One Liner
Most Predictable Plot Award
Best Miscasting
Best Screenplay with words of Two Syallables or Less

Superbad... yes, I laughed. It made me laugh. But I will never watch it again. I made good God... how many cock and balls jokes can a movie really have before the 50th one becomes a copy of the third one.

I think they are called the People's Choice Awards

Fuck the common man and the movies made for him. Movie making should be more than entertainment for tired, over-worked, "I need to get away from my life so give me a movie that requires no use of my brain", mindless fools.

Simply wanting to be entertained does not make somebody an idiot, but those people also need to realize that what they are watching is simple and for entertainment value. And what people like you need to realize is that just because somebody watches movies for entertainment only does not make them stupid.

I watch movies and TV for entertainment. If I want a stimulating discussion, I will have a discussion. Watching a "thought-provoking" movie is not a discussion, it is taking in somebody else's take.

I disagree. If so, the same could be said about music, painting, and writing. When reading a good book or looking at a picture, if it is deep and moving, these provoke thoughts. If it is a pop song or a mainstream "written for the flight" novel, it does not.

There are plenty of others Awards shows for you to watch instead. Blockbuster Awards and MTV Movie Awards come to mind first. The Oscars have always awarded for "excellence" as opposed to box-office stats. This argument of yours is nothing new.

I am not surprised your friends didn't see these movies. A lot of them were independent films, and didn't start to gain popularity until after the Nominations and wins at the Golden Globes. Your friends probably saw the Will Ferrell and Spiderman movies because they were mainstream and heavily promoted.

J. Falcon 02-24-2008 10:51 PM

Will Ferrell is a doofus.

Mutt 02-24-2008 10:58 PM

there's a famous quote 'dying is easy, comedy is hard' written by some famous actor.

the world is filled with thousands and thousands of good dramatic actors - in comparison there are a handful relatively that can do what Will Ferrell does.

The best movies are always the ones that are both thought-provoking and entertaining at the same time. This year's Best Picture Winner "No Country For Old Men" had both of these qualities.

Relax, Mutt... the Oscars are just marketing. They mean nothing.
