Whats the biggest sporting event you have witnessed?

My top 3 of all time are:

1994 watching Rangers win the CUP
2008 going to the Superbowl and seeing my GIANTS win
2002 World Cup USA vs IRAN.. not a soccer fan but big event 130,000 people

my runners up
1998 Olympics in Nagano
2006 Olympics in Torino
2007,2006 ,2005 Stanley Cup finals game 7. Ducks,Carolina,Tampa

Wimbledon and the French Open were also cool for not being a tennis fan really

Fap 02-24-2008 03:53 PM

LA riots.

CarlosTheGaucho 02-24-2008 05:55 PM

Well mine was surely when my hometown won the national ice hockey cup, 1994/95.

First time ever to be the rookie team to win the title, beating the main rival in the finals.

Like if NY Rangers would beat the New Jersey in finals - such a rivality.

The players that never even GOT the chance to play in the extra league, and they made to win the title, fucking amazing. I was actually living in the city that was the rival and runner up at that time... my team made six more titles in the eight years to come.

Biggest I've competed in would be just under 10k @ the Empire State Games.

GrouchyAdmin 02-24-2008 08:57 PM

The Enron-California Brownouts of the late 90s, or the source release of Netscape at jwz's shitty bar. Both blew.

scottybuzz 02-24-2008 09:23 PM

champions league final 05 paris 90,000

kane 02-24-2008 11:45 PM

I saw the last game that Nolan Ryan pitched. A bunch of figured he would be retiring soon so we made the road trip and watched him pitch. The guy was amazing. The next game he blew out his arm and retired.

Matt 26z 02-24-2008 11:47 PM

I would say just seeing Michael Jordan play.

heymatty 02-24-2008 11:54 PM

I was at the game Cal Ripken sat out.

Jdoughs 02-25-2008 12:05 AM

1984 and 1985 Stanley Cup Finals

My Father had seasons tickets and i was an extremely happy 12 year old. We missed 2 playoff games in both seasons i think.

I still can feel the crowd from that game 5 victory, it was truely magical.

baddog 02-25-2008 12:06 AM

Would have to have been the Olympics when they were in LA back in the early 80's

JuiceMonkey 02-25-2008 06:47 AM

nothing much really on the global scale, but huge locally.

Game 7 St Louis Vancouver (only round one, but first vancouver series win in a while)
Game 6, 1994 Stanley cup finals (beat NYR sending it to game 7)

cool things :

Real Madrid (with beckham) play DC United in Seattle.
Saw the All Blacks play in NZ.
Saw a game of "aussie rules" in Melbourne.

Mike Honcho 02-25-2008 09:05 AM

I was apart of the Houston gang bang :2 cents:

Burnt Bacon 02-25-2008 09:29 AM

In the park for Joe Carter's game winning World Series home run. Pretty bloody exciting.

Runner up, Roger Clemens' 20 strike out performance while he was pitching for the Jays.

Now, for some Leaf memories...

Brother Bilo 02-25-2008 11:29 AM

I was at the Mariners game when tiles from the roof of the Kingdome fell into the stands. Good thing nobody was sitting there when it happened.

I know I've been witness to other cool events in sports history, but I was usually too wasted to really remember.

Then after Vancouver lost in game 7, the Canuckle head fans tourched the city... and noy 1 single arrest was made in NYC when CUP was one.

CDSmith 02-27-2008 01:54 AM

1. '76 Olympics in Montreal.
2. '78 commonwealth games in Edmo
3. Winnipeg Jets defeat the Houston Aeros in '76 to win the Avco cup (WHA).

V_RocKs 02-27-2008 02:16 AM

Kobe scoring 81 points.

Porno Dan 02-27-2008 10:47 AM

Richmond 500 - I think around 112,000 people attend every year
Every Redskins vs Cowboys at Fed Ex - Roughly 80,000 attend these are always the best game of the year
Norte Dame vs Michigan State 2002 - Amazing place to watch a game
George Mason University upsets U Conn 2006 NCAA Tournament - Verzion Center
Univesity of Georgia vs Tennessee 2007 - You have to tailgate at UGA at least once in your life

Thiese are just a few of the great events I have attended

LauraLee 02-27-2008 10:51 AM

Two stand out. I was able to go to the Marlins Championship game. We won it all that year :)
At this juncture, for me, hardly anything matches up to watching the Partiot's fold this Superbowl :) :) :)

Strickie 02-27-2008 12:11 PM
