Attn: Biz thread

So I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about the battle between Sony and Toshiba, specifically, the issue of Blu-Ray vs Hi-Def.

From what I have gathered, since Toshiba has bowed out, hi-def will no longer be an option. Furthermore, Sony has said, "no porn on Blu-Ray."

If his facts are correct (I presume they are, this is his forte), what does this mean for adult video producers that have invested in Hi-Def?

What do you think will happen?

I don't even want to say it...

munki 02-23-2008 11:24 PM

How long do you think the no porn on Blu will last?

Didn't Sony say no porn to BetaMax as well? Of course, that probably contributed to their demise since VHS welcomed it with open arms.

If you know something he doesn't, spill it.

Since Sony has the largest movie library on the planet, I don't see any reason for them to change their stance.

Damian_Maxcash 02-23-2008 11:27 PM

Do Sony own the rights to the Blu-Ray format?

If they do they have screwed everyone.....

What about this stuff? Just quick research, but obviously of the limited replicators able to do Blu-Ray... somebody didn't get the memo...

WWC 02-23-2008 11:30 PM

no matter what it will take some time to stream full screen hi def through the web....so it doesnt matter for us if no porn on blue ray....we are barely getting regular dvd in full screen online....unless its through iptv technology like our feeds ;-)

Just like with earlier video and streaming formats... people need to work on their compression structures, delivery codecs, and allow for some adaptation time.

Interesting

And in what we see as a nice little bit of postmodern irony, how fitting that the first Blu-ray adult title is also a sequel to the original 'Debbie Does Dallas,' which was not only one of porn's biggest hits in the '70s but responsible for helping to ensure the success of VHS over its rival -- the Sony Betamax.

Was referring to discs, not Internet delivery.

Damian_Maxcash 02-23-2008 11:39 PM

Somebody asked a few days ago about 'True High Def' on sites.

MaxCash are VERY clear that we have 'Higher Def' video.

A few claimed they have TRUE High Def - Is that true?

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 02-23-2008 11:42 PM

Sony already blinked on their no porn on Blu-Ray position...

LFP (Hustler), Digital Playground and others have already released adult titles in that format.

I imagine Sony would have lost another format war if they nixed porn again.

It won't matter much in a few years anyway, with a new multitude of delivery options opening up...

ADG

I cant see us delivering high def over the net - not in a few years anyway - If anyone wants porn in that format it will have to be on disc.

Has any porn been made in REAL high def?

Rochard 02-23-2008 11:54 PM

What I think will happen is DVDs of any type will be finished in about a year or so.

Christina Muller 02-23-2008 11:54 PM

Sony will allow porn on Blu-Ray disks

Got to keep the slow, and non adaptors in mind though...

There are people out there who still have SD analog screens... actuals tubes (gasp), and may just be getting out of the habit of their VHS favorites and slowly into DVD.

DVDs will def be getting replaced, but a year is a lil quick to pronounce TOD.

For one thing, the Blu-ray Disc Assocation is not Sony :winkwink:

I spoke to a blu-ray rep at CES this year who told me that the rumor that there would be no blu-ray porn was blown out of proportion after a Disney replicating house stated they wouldn't work with adult content.

shrug

I know what you mean - I have spent over $500 on HDMI leads and adaptors - and I still stick them in random holes and hope for the best.

Fucked if I have seen anything in real High Def either.

I'd kill for a working firewire from my cable box.... so many workarounds to make it happen it's driving me nuts.

No, it really doesn't, IMHO. Watch by Christmas prices will have dropped enough to make it affordable to everyone.

Quoted for truth!! Thats what I said a long time ago.. I have even heard some of the girls say they do not want to be shoot in HiDef.. There are sometimes the picture adding a little fuzzyness is better...

Fizzgig 02-24-2008 01:14 AM

Back to the original question: Anyone who invested in Hi-Def needs to cut his losses and go to Blu-Ray. Sometimes you just have to go with the crowd.

DatingGold 02-24-2008 02:23 AM

thats a good question... I bet they will allow it
