Where do The Police rank amongst all time rock bands?

I see they are on tour.

Top 10 for me. maybe Top 5 but i would have to think about it.

mn 02-22-2008 02:37 PM

top 20.... but they are not good

BVF 02-22-2008 02:38 PM

It's one of the only rock bands that had a modicum of crossover appeal with African-Americans so I'd say that it ranks VERY high...

jollyperv 02-22-2008 02:38 PM

They had some fucking hits that's for sure.

D 02-22-2008 02:39 PM

Top 5 for me... possibly Top 3.

Sting's "Soul Cages" came out at the right time for me in my life.... been a huge fan of his body of work ever since.

Mister E 02-22-2008 02:40 PM

I saw thim back in the day when they still had some *spirit*. See them live if you can, they helped put Toronto on the map by doing a yearly event here called "The Police Picnic".

This proves I am 2257 compliant!

MaDalton 02-22-2008 02:42 PM

definitely top 10

jollyperv 02-22-2008 02:43 PM

Soulseek "fall out", song kicks fucking ass

scottybuzz 02-22-2008 02:43 PM

sting and the police rock. Dont know about rankings as im not a huge music fan.

Mutt 02-22-2008 02:43 PM

i'm not a huge music guy - love it but i'm not obsessive like most people are about it but The Police are different for me - I saw them quite a few times in small clubs before they broke big. When you're a fan of a band or artist before they become major acts it's just neat. Sucks usually when they become mass accepted but The Police were different - they never sold out and Sting went where he wanted to go with his interest in jazz.

Kevin Marx 02-22-2008 02:43 PM

I'd put them Top 10 or 20... there have been some amazing acts in history.

For me personally and what I grew up with.. Top 10 absolutely.

Lee 02-22-2008 04:10 PM

I saw them in November, they were great. Just the 3 of them on stage, no backing singers or musicians and they sounded awesome.

Lee 02-22-2008 04:13 PM

Actually, every song was great except Dont Stand So Close To Me. Theyve experimented with a few of them and they slowed down the chorus and it came across a bit lounge music-like. On the flipside, When the World is running down you make the best of whats still around was really good.

needlive 02-22-2008 05:43 PM

Don't know much from them but what I know is nice.

Every Breath You Take - everyone knows it, one of the biggest classics of all time.

Roxanne is cool too, though I like the George Michael - version better.

baddog 02-22-2008 05:45 PM

Top 100, maybe

corvette 02-22-2008 05:47 PM

way up there, i learned to play bass to them, happy fun music with morbid lyrics

Chio 02-22-2008 06:05 PM

In terms of musicianship for me they are in the top 10. I love the police and Stewart Copeland is one of my all time favorite drummers (I play drums) but I can't take them for too long.

I think top 25, not top 5 . Sting is a bit of a tosser, good at what he does though . Copeland is a great drummer, I too jammed along w/ his playing. (I drum too):GFYBand

tony286 02-22-2008 11:40 PM

I would say top 10, they had a very unique sound and for three guys to sound so full on stage.
