Hosting Question - Is my hosting fucking me over? Help
Hello
I just need to ask a question about hosting. I am on a quad server with 10mbps. 4gb ram My website videos run on flash. When i try to watch videos on my website, it loads very slow with constant buffering freezes. ( Even with testing, flash movies that are 10mins long - 74mb in size ) When, i go to other sites that are running on even shared hosting. I can watch their 1hr movies, without buffering. My host says, everything is fine, on their end. They cant even find a solution. So, i am asking anyone, who has knowlege with this stuff.. To please help. This way, i can transfer, from them, if they are cheating me. What could be causing this. Is it capping OR do i need to increase the mbps. Thanks. |
before we go at the host how are running the flash? what software because the machine sounds up to the task.
we can then look at the peering. |
The flash is just embed on pages .. The movies will play fine if its 1minute .. But 10min is a problem.
I tried wmv also .. Same problem |
Post a link.

Hi,
I prefer not to post links ( Beta ). Was just asking questions, If anyone had a problem like this before. Or had an idea, of what could be wrong. And please. This is NOT a tube. It is a paysite. |
Sorry there is no way to help you without more information.:helpme

Are you on a capped plan?
Are you on the same continent as your host? Could be server settings... several possibilities, hard to say for sure without more info. |

I am on a capped plan of 10mbps
my host is in usa, and i am in canada The host is not on this board. Would removing the capping, solve the problem. And if yes. How?? Thanks for all the reply so far. I appreciate it. |

On other sites that seem to run better, what size are the videos? If your internet connection can't download 74MB in ten minutes it's going to have buffering delays no matter how fast the host. Go to Speakeasy and do a speed test. 74MB in 10 minutes is 987 Kbps. Does speakeasy say your connection is at least 987 Kbps? You also said you've bought a 10 Mbps connection from your host. With overhead, call it 9Mbps. One user downloading one of your videos needs 1Mbps to avoid buffering. That means the connection you bought should support nine users at a time. Does your site have enough traffic that you'd expect more than nine people to be dwnloading videos or loading images at a time? If so, you'll need more than 10 Mbps to avoid buffering delays. |

You say you are in Beta mode ... so you should have very little users .... The capping should not come in play at this stage. Problem can be a wrong setting for the actual server ( check to see if your nic is full duplex ) or not tweaked apache config file ( maxclients, disconnect, etc ...). |
