Cavs Acquire Ben Wallace in Blockbuster 11 Player Deal!

Thought we would never get rid of Hughes' non-shooting ass! I hate to see Gooden and Marshall go but, I like this deal! Hell yeah!

From Yahoo Sports

Finally, LeBron James has a supporting cast.

In an 11 player three-team blockbuster trade, the Cavaliers acquired Chicago's Ben Wallace and Joe Smith, Seattle's Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West before the trade deadline closed on Thursday, two league sources confirmed.

The Cavaliers sent Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Shannon Brown and Cedric Simmons to the Bulls, and Donyell Marshall to the Sonics. Seattle also gets the expiring contracts of Chicago's Adrian Griffin and Cleveland's Ira Newble.

The trade marks the end of the Wallace experiment in Chicago, where the $60 million signing two years ago never fulfilled expectations. He'll try to revive his career alongside James, who has been desperate for an improved supporting cast. Smith, a 6-foot-10 forward, has been one of the Bulls' most consistent players, and Szczerbiak gives the Cavs a consistent outside shooting threat to go with Daniel Gibson.

Great deal for Cavs fans, congrats.

OK - deal for the Cavs, IMO.

If Ben shows up to play...good. If not - need I finish?

I think Bron will make sure of that. It's funny because I was pissed they didnt get Ben when Detroit traded him a few years ago.

I think it's going to turn out to be a good trade.

ben is so overrated

I don't think so. Maybe he has not had his best time with Chicago, but taking a look at his career stats gives you enough. Not to mention his effect on his team's defense. :2 cents:

Totally. He is a strike

Sosa 02-21-2008 08:23 PM

all ben does is rebound. not worth the money he is being paid. He fit the system in Detroit because they already had scorers etc. In Chicago they were expecting much more.

really huge risk for the Cavs and one i think they will regret eventually - makes them better though for now but still not championship caliber and if Wallace doesn't play All Star caliber ball his contract is going to be a huge boat anchor and they will go nowhere and then you'll hear LeBron's camp starting to bitch about a trade out of Cleveland.

Wallace is not someone you build a team around. He is a great player to help build around LeBron James. Good move Cavs.

Without looking at all the contract situations, my initial thought is that it definitely should help the Cavs. They'll miss Gooden's lost post scoring cause Wallace won't provide much, but Joe Smith is decent in the block. They'll get some much needed perimeter scoring from Wally and Delonte. I hope this doesn't mean an end to the funniest NBA blog I've read http://heylarryhughespleasestoptakin...ybadshots.com/

There has been interesting trades this season in the NBA. One of the last trades made before the deadline was Raptor's Juan Dixon traded to the Pistons for Primoz Brezec, who has bounced around the league quite alot. I hope Brezec gives the Raptors a much needed rebound presence, the area that they are lacking in.

I am on the fence because of all the "ifs" attached to this trade. I do think its a good move, just because its a move. Cavs have a history of not being risky. It has to be apparent that Lebron is so out of here in a few years. His head is so far up JayZ's ass that as soon as he gets the chance he is east coast bound.

So "if" Ben steps up, which I think he will, "if" Wally can mount a plausible threat on the perimeter, which who knows, "if" West continues to play consistently, this could be good. And hey we got rid of that albatross Hughes. Would rather have seen the overated Andy V go. But it's a start to another championship run before LeBron vaporizes.

The key here is LeBron.

As long as you have him with good role players, they'll be good no matter what.

Big Ben and Wally will help for sure. I'll miss Gooden though.

Overall, I'm glad they did this deal. Newble, Marshall and Hughes were inconsistant and hurt all the time.

And we still get a second rounder next year. Very good move. Those guys from Chicago are solid too.

Strickie 02-22-2008 10:44 AM

The Cavs scored on this deal. They let go of some quality guys, but let's not forget that Wallace is a four time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and can grab tons of boards.
