Capturing video and dropped frames?

I'm trying to capture video to my PC from my sony camcorder for the first time.. I have bought a firewire card and got adobe premiere.

The problem is, when I try to capture video it keeps dropping frames and makes the finished result look shit, I bought a new barracuda hard drive thinking it was that at fault, but it is still the same.

Please don't say purchase a Mac as I use them to wipe my muddy boots on and nothing else, but any help would be greatly appreciated! :(

Try to enable DMA on your harddrive

Premiere is a little resource-hungry, try capturing in a different program, then just use premiere for editing and shit. You don't need premiere's bells and whistles loaded until you're ready to use them.

Thanks for the suggesstions guys!

I found a great site that tells you just how to sort it, not a single dropped frame in half an hours capture now!

For anyone with the same problem: here's the link
