American Psycho

"I like to dissect girls"

Mr Pheer 02-20-2008 08:39 AM

"Feed me a stray cat"

OldSchoolJim 02-20-2008 08:41 AM

Paper Billy 02-20-2008 09:19 AM

"do you like huey lewis and the news?"

L-Pink 02-20-2008 09:25 AM

"I want you to clean your vagina"

Walrus 02-20-2008 09:29 AM

That was quite a movie. The 80s album reviews was definitely the best part. Not sure I could really watch that movie all the way through again though.

Read the book!

ADL Colin 02-20-2008 09:33 AM

Anyone read anything else by Ellis? Recommendations?

:thumbsup:thumbsup

I remember reading that book in high school, and having to set it down from time to time because I felt like I was going to throw up.

The chapter with the pvc pipe, acid, naked woman, starved rat in a cage, and brie cheese while there was a video playing in the background of him committing another murder in the same room in which he was eating a woman's brain with Grey Poupon was a bit much...

I kinda figured they'd leave that one out of the movie.

:throwup

To add my own quote (and to paraphrase):

"The sounds she was making were, for the most part, indescribable."

Brett Easton Ellis was one sick fuck. :helpme:helpme

Agreed.

I haven't read him in about 15 years, though.

SykkBoy 02-20-2008 10:08 AM

It's interesting to see how much this movie influenced the TV show Dexter (Dexter even used the name Patrick Bateman when ordering the tranquilizers)

ADL Colin 02-20-2008 10:09 AM

LPink and D,

Not a very strong recommendation?

My favorite of his books was Rules of Attraction
the movie was so-so, but the book was pretty damn good

No... it's a classic. I'd certainly recommend reading it. It was a national bestseller and, if I recall correctly, his first novel.

Just don't expect more of the same. It's a different kind of book.

It's worth reading, I just didn't think it was a great book.

Bale is a very underated actor. He has been briliant in all his movies.

Oh man, this is one of my all-time favorite movies, and favorite books. The book was by far more in depth and disgusting. A fantastic read.

I've read other books by Ellis, but none compare. I think it's the subject matter that captivated me.

If memory serves...a copy of American Psycho was found on the bedside table of Canadian serial killer Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka.

kane 02-20-2008 10:05 PM

I have read almost all of his books and I can really recommend The Informers, Rules of Attraction and Less than Zero. I could only get about half way through Glam-O-Rama but have been told it pays off in the end so I might give it another try and I haven't yet read Lunar Park.

Book was fabulous and Christian Bale is pretty much my favorite actor, but I hate Jared Leto, so that was a real pisser. I tried to forget about what a total douchebag he is and block him out. :1orglaugh

I've come to value your input on movies, as your taste somewhat mirrors my own.

Bale impressed me in American Psycho, but won me over as an actor in The Machinist.

He was utterly brilliant in that movie.

Isn't The Informers a prequel, and not a sequel? Is that the movie you are referring to here? I'm curious as to how you were able to see such an advanced screening if so. There aren't even any user comments on imdb, and no US release date has been set yet. I wonder if Brad Renfro finished all his scenes before dying.

V_RocKs 02-21-2008 06:06 AM

I'd hit it, 2x's!

lunar park! much more tame than american psycho but classic easton-ellis. it's fiction, but he writes as if it's semi-autobiographical. the story is about what happens when an american psycho copycat killer comes into the picture.... sooo good

:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

I loved that movie. He was extremely overlooked for an Oscar nod that year...

The guy must have lost 30 lbs to do that role, and at his normal weight he didn't look like he could spare much.

Now that's commitment.
