CD Burning Software for XP

What CD burning software do you use for Windows XP? I am having compatibility problems with my Windows ME software.

TDF 10-06-2002 06:56 PM

gothweb 10-06-2002 06:58 PM

I just tried Nero and it was not working. I was not sure if it was incompatible or not. Maybe I just had an old version.

Damn, I just checked the CD I just made with Nero, and the files exist. It looks like it worked. Only thing is it told me it had errors and could not write the disk, so something's wrong somewhere.

I love Windows. So intuitive. :1orglaugh

Anyone find it odd that people can't *find* such a basic feature?

Mac people, so defensive.

And dont cry at me, I own a behemoth mac.

DarkWing 10-06-2002 07:10 PM

I used nero for 98 and Win2K but with XP there is no need. I know some drives are more reliable than others but i have had problems on 2K with my Creative CDRW (using nero), but on XP i use a Plexwriter and not one single problem.

On the 2K box i had to search and search for media that would work without problems (certain brands refused to work at all) but on the XP box works fine.

Anyway, the interface with XP is so much nicer, just drag and drop. When your ready to burn, you just right mouse click on the drive and burn (unless you get autoprompted down on your iconbar).

XP burns far more better than nero, however i spose you dont have as many features. But for a person who is not that computer literate, would recommend using XP any time.

My bad... only my CD Burning can read the disk. A regulare CD-ROM can not.

I never bothered to look as Windows ME never had CD Burning build in.

It is hilarious that you feel the need to put down Windows...

Until OS X (specifically Jaguar), MAC people had nothing to brag about.

OS 9 and below were horrible. I used to do Tech support for a large University (25,000 students and nearly 10,000 staff) and all previous MAC Operating Systems were horrid. From the error messages and on.

I will say OS X is a sweet OS, but I've been running Linux and FreeBSD for years now so its not exactly a new technology. I still think Enlightment is the best looking Windows Manager. And I can even make it look like OS X.

However, Final Cut Pro is a fantastic piece of software.

Does not work for me. I think my CD Burner is too old. It's only a 2x.

It was the first 'affordable' CD burner that came out, just under $400.

DarkWing 10-06-2002 07:39 PM

My first cd-rom was 1x caddie drive, cost me $400 second hand. Only got it cause seventh guest had just come out and hadda play it. There is allways old stuff around :-)

My above link gave me my answer:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/informa.../lpg40447.html

"Features not supported with the Windows XP IDE driver
An IDE driver will only allow the drive to function as a reader. Windows XP-compatible CD recording software is necessary to allow the drive to write to CD-R and CD-RW media."

Well, actually, when you use Windows Explorer to highlight the files you want to add to the cd, "Add to CD" is one of the options in the menu. I really don't see how anyone could miss it. Burning CD's is easy with XP.

NERO and adaptect since nero doesnt support audio cd text.

High Quality 10-06-2002 11:32 PM

nero satisfies all my needs.

ALL of them :thumbsup

Exactly. I was not looking for it for one, and it did not exist on my computer for another (as my CD-Write is so old [2x] that it was incompatible).

For anyone who cares, this link pointed me to some software that worked:

Amazing that HP still has awesome support for its old products like this on its site.
