"Free education" in Cuba?
From Wikipedia. Is this a fair and true criticism?
'Critics also dispute that education is "free" (in Cuba), since from the time a young person reaches seventh grade until he or she completes twelfth grade, he or she is required to spend 30 days without pay each year working on the land. Later, university graduates have to do "social service", a period of some three years work carried out by the graduate wherever sent.' |
In Britain education is not free either....we have to pay taxes....
The point is in Cuba education is free at the point of use for all... In the rich countries the rich get the best education, health, legal advice, housing, food etc the poor get .... if you don't know take a bus to the poor side of any city |
I would never want to live in any country where your only chance of leaving is by playing baseball, joining an Olympic team, being part of the dictatorship or escaping. Come on let's not even go down this path...

Free in the sense of, you dont have to pay money. How many people in the world can afford 30k per year for thier kid to go to a university. Not many.
At least in cuba is a trade, and the education is worth the time. |
all "free" education is paid by someone....someone somewhere is picking up the tab...

An interesting note. Harvard is now free for students of familes that make less than $60k/year.

it's about the only thing that is ""free"" in that country!
On a positive note, that communist dictator has finally given-up and ready to step down. I just hope, for their sake, that the Cuban people are not stuck with another Fidel Castro[slash]Hugo Chavez kinda moron. |

His name is Raul. |
Raul wont stay in power.
Even though he is good for the country ( he can run it like a business and do very well ) but the other government people dont like him. I see him leaving the country. |
Raul is also very old. He's not gonna last too long. Someone younger has to take charge.
