Why do many free sites look like a 4yo made them?

Times New Roman as font, crappy layout, crazy colors, no clear structure... Why do so many free sites look ugly as fuck and still get approved on the big link lists?

Do amateur-style designed sites sell better or are people just incapable of designing a nice looking site?

cuz alot of the linklists have rules like:
- Your freesite must look like it was made in 1995.
- Don't drink coffee/tea/coca cola while you're submitting.
-...

Too many people setup a quick website with the expectation of making big money easily in the porn biz... so many don't stick around for long enough to improve their websites.

Although, there was an article some time ago about "ugly websites" selling well.

I know that amateur-/homemadeporn sites sell well with adequate looking designs... but HQ pornstar sites? I dunno...

czarina 02-19-2008 09:48 AM

I think he means freesites, the counterparts of galleries, but with 3 or 4 pages and up to 30 photos.
Indeed, they look like crap. I've been wondering why myself.

Paparazzi 02-19-2008 09:49 AM

because they sell better

can you back that up? I mean, if I was a surfer, I wouldn't buy from such shady looking sites, but rather from sites with a serious appearance...

Horny Dude 02-19-2008 10:44 AM

Remember the old saying K.I.S.S., Freesites built for LL submission's are not going to win awards, just sell the content and the site. I do agree with you that some are very ugly and I wonder how they got approved. When I build my Freesites I keep them simple, but I like to make them look good. If I'm building for an affiliate program then I make sure they look good. Hit my sig if you want to see my work!

Diligent 02-19-2008 11:05 AM

Because 4yo's are super cheap labor :1orglaugh

But seriously, it "lifts up" the content better... and that's what You're selling... :2 cents:

tranza 02-19-2008 11:09 AM

The problem is that LinkList owners like the old time submitters.

If you try to enter this market right now, and submit freesites to the big LinkLists they will probably not accept your stuff. Even worse, you'll probably be banned within a couple of weeks simply because they didn't like the stuff you have been submitting.

I believe that's the reason why there are SO many ugly looking freesites.

:2 cents:

CDSmith 02-19-2008 11:09 AM

Because a site doesn't have to be professionally designed to make money.

Surfers care about content, and less about a flashy shell to go with it.

Fat Panda 02-19-2008 11:10 AM

i personally have never liked free sites....thats just me

Dennis69 02-19-2008 11:21 AM

Free sites should be text and then when they go to the paysite then thats when they should be impressed :thumbsup

For the amount of traffic most freesites get, it usually isn't worth it to spend hours making good templates. The main people who make money in the freesite game are the owners of the links lists.

Also the free site game isn't worth it otherwise because their is so much BS to deal with. You could design masterpieces but still not get listed for more than a month. It is not worth it.

LiveDose 02-19-2008 11:49 AM

Simple looking sites often sell well surprisingly.

Doctor Dre 02-19-2008 12:02 PM

The linklists only accept ugly sites. I've tried making good looking ones when I was submitting and they never got much traffic.

Quoted for the truth.

Your job on a freesite is to get surfers off your page and to a sponsor.

A paysite is to look nice to entice the surfer to stay and buy.

sniperwolf 02-19-2008 01:30 PM

because it's freesites... made free... so it's ugly.. lol :helpme

you should be looking at the content instead of the design.

surfers don't buy from free sites, they buy from pay sites...this is why it's important that the paysites looks better than the freesite..

a free site should be sort of a teaser or advertisement for the paysite.

DirtyProfits 02-19-2008 04:32 PM

Because linklist owners couldn't care less about the way your sites look. They want the recip link to get more search engine traffic (more money for them) and free content to satisfy their bookmarkers.

V_RocKs 02-19-2008 04:42 PM

Content is king... not design...

Jensen 02-19-2008 04:46 PM

the demand for a new unique layout each day surely cuts down on the quality..

papill0n 02-19-2008 05:11 PM

The worse your free site looks the better a sponsors paysite looks. :2 cents:
